Freedom, Justice and Equality

Heard a rumour that we used to fight against this sort of thing?

Re: Freedom, Justice and Equality
if they'd just go with chinese style immediate execution than the government wouldn't have to spend so much money fighting off those stupid appeals.

If I can be Captain Obvious for a minute, this isn't World War 2. The case that we are even in a vaguely similar situation hasn't sucessfully been made.
If conscription was introduced would you cheerily dismiss the erosion of rights under the banner of "worst has happened in other conflicts"?

Re: Freedom, Justice and Equality
its a disgrace
this is the kind of thing that happens in wartime... and despite the rhetoric WE ARE NOT AT WAR. Its an erosion of civil liberties where it isnt neccesary.

Re: Freedom, Justice and Equality
I know, how about we just let the terrorists go; forgive and forget? Give me a break, if a liberal court thought that the evidence was compelling enough to keep them locked up, I'm hardly going to believe that these men had no links AT ALL to terrorism. The fact of the matter is, giving these people a public trial would only give them a chance to spew rhetoric, and decrease their value as an intelligence asset. Deepflow I hate to say if but you need to grow some skin... this is going to happen and it is an unfortunate but necessary modification in the criminal code.

Re: Freedom, Justice and Equality
Its very unfortunate and not neccesary at all. If they are guilty; fine, lock them up. After a fair trial. If they are innocent, release them. After a fair trial.
Some of these people may be guilty. Many probably are, in fact, maybe even most. But I doubt very much that every single one is. A fair trial is what is neccesary, if not only for showing that "our way" is better. Sentencing without fair trials is what "rouge nations" do.
