Planetarion API
Playing Planetarion to me is about finding algorithms and high-level actions to performs certain tasks. How-ever the UI is limiting me. The result being is spending an lot of time on the UI doing stuff I wanted to perform faster.
For example. If I desire to have 100k of each resource spend on randomly scanning planets to find out if one is vulnerable for Co-type attacks. I have to click many times around spending time to execute this idea. Where-as if I would have an API I can program this idea and execute it to my liking.
An other example is the calculations on incoming fleets. The numbers and statistics are exposed, how-ever I have to perform many manual calculations to come to some decent conclusions or suggestions.
Having the data exposed in an API would also allow me to write some decent Android/iOS apps to allow playing where-ever when-ever I want to. For example if my galaxy mates need my help, we use WhatsApp or Telegram to flag the attack. I like to quickly help them out with a few clicks in a app for example.
Last but not least; I like to be able to act and react on events even when I am away from my devices. For example if I have incoming I like to (secretly) build a defending fleet, allowing this to be ready to time of landing.
This kind of 'automation' might be considered bot-like behaviour by some people, I how-ever look at it as a way of interacting with the system to be able to play the same way I would tackle an scientific challenge. I do agree that it needs to be transparent if background-algorithms are in play to ensure fairness of the game. Adding an extra dimension of playing I would argue.
It would for example be quite some fun to beat the player(s) with a clever (in his/her thinking) algorithm in a UI which is far more attractive to work with.
