Re: Round 20 Beta Testing

will the beta testing be exclusively private, or will it allow timewasters for a public beta as well later on?

The worst is when they cheat in it to try and win a beta...

Re: Round 20 Beta Testing

Finally, someone figured out you can't run a "beta test" in a few weeks

Hopefully the kiddies who play to "win" won't get involved until the "public beta".

The plan is not to run a public beta in the format that it has been ran in the past. The increased organisation of the private beta will allow us to scrap a public beta.

A mass public beta is always needed even with private beta's being run. While a speed game is never a fair reflection of the actual game theres certain issues that will never present themselves during a small closed beta. I mean just look at most off the shelf games which require a patch not long after release when the mass usage brings about problems which didnt present before.

Also people wanting to do proper beta testing arent often the same as an average player so they arent great for viability testing. tbh I would be in favour of additionally public betas run throught the round in addition to the private betas/

Re: Round 20 Beta Testing

Wakey, the problem is that a lot of issues which come up throughout the Speedgames aren't reported to us. Many players use it as a free event for them to play the game instead of actually helping us develop the game. There is a point where beta goes from being helpful to being abused.

Should the need for a public beta arise then we will have one, but at the moment there is not a plan for us to run one just yet.

Re: Round 20 Beta Testing

It will be mainly done during the evenings (GMT) and at the weekends.

A schedule will be sorted out that most people can attend.

If just a single issue is reported from a mass user test then its been of use. Small focused testing and mass user testing test different parts of the game and as such theres a requirement for BOTH types of tests to be done throught the development process.

Re: Round 20 Beta Testing

I would like to thank all those who have applied to become a Beta Tester for Planetarion.

We are currently looking over the applications and you will hear from us soon.

For now, applying to Beta Test for Planetarion is closed.

Thank you again, we have had a superb response to this thread regarding issues about public/private betas and questions about the beta.
