An Old School Friend Of Mine
Died yesterday in what looks like a suicide. Link
I'm feeling pretty weird at the moment, very shocked and totally surprised. Is this how am I supposed to react ? I am usually easy going about everything but this has really put me at a loss.
I I hadn't seen him for a few years what, with us both moving away to different parts of the country, but we were always said hi and occasionally had a laugh about all the stupid shit we did at school when we were younger. It's made even more sad that his parents live across the road from my mother.
I'm rambling I know but I need to get some thoughts down even on a forum for a silly brower based game that none of us admit to still playing.

Re: An Old School Friend Of Mine
My condolences vaio - not a good thing to go through
Wen my gradad died I laughed histerically and called my aunty a liar.
When my great auntie died I collapsed becaus it reminded me too much of what happened to my grandad.
Grief effects everyone differently.
Just make sure you remember the best of you friend and not the worst and make time for yourself.

Re: An Old School Friend Of Mine
A lot of the time when someone our own age dies it, unsurprisingly makes us reflect more. A grandparent dying doesn't always affect us in the same way as we know they were "really old" and therefore going to die anyway.
A friend dying shows us our morality. Anyway, that's my Captain Obvious bit over with.
Sorry you lost your friend.

Re: An Old School Friend Of Mine
My uncle committed suicide there not too long ago. I was quite close with him and I couldn't get my head around it.
Not sure I actually have. I just got really angry and confused about things for a while and then when the funeral happened, I had something to concentrate on. I used that as my way of saying goodbye to him and tried to move on.
Never works like that though so you'll just have to amble along and you'll get through this.
My condolences

for some reason someone committing suicide doesn't give me that "it could have been any of us!" feel that a lot of other deaths do.

Re: An Old School Friend Of Mine
Yeah, sounds so cliche but the older you get the more people you start to lose, even people around your age eventually. I've lost several members of my family, some friends around my age and my father who was way to young to die. It makes you (well in my case) realise life is really short and not only because it's a habit to say that, it just is and by realising that you should just get out of it what you want. For me it's not a lot, just have fun, make myself and people laugh and not get too tired too much hah.

Re: An Old School Friend Of Mine
On a serious note, my guidance teacher during my first four high school years committed suicide after apparently hitting a boy, all sorts of stories went around abotu how he was a kiddie fiddler or how he was this or that.
End of the day the most you can ask for is that no-one stirs up shit about his reasons behind his death.
Suicide is a very painful way to go on all people who were ever involved with the person and can bring out the worst in some people and the doubts in others.
Let's hope the constabulary keep's this nice and tidy.

Confusion or an insatiable desire for a reason for the occurence is an inevitable reaction.

And has been all day.
Thanks to all for the condolences. Tomorrow I will go and see his parents and see how they are. They are the ones that are doing the real suffering.
