New nomination for 'Worst Cover Ever'
I just zapped by MTV tonight, when I heard some rather familiar lyrics, but then not quite. Then, the horror on my screen unfolded. Undoubtedly the worst cover version of any song ever made, it beats Britney's cover of 'I love Rock & Roll'. Ladies & Gentlemen, I present to you the horror that is:
Tom Jones - Black Betty.

i am opposed to covers in general. If you are a good enough artist, you can write your own **** rather than making money off other folks songs.
In particular, any beatles or queen cover is destined to be ****e.
Queue faggots saying "hey this beatles cover is excellent"

I'm not particularly fond of rebutting songs for commercial gain either as the covers generally add nothing to the (qualities) of the song.
I hold nothing against bands though who play the occasional cover during live gigs.

It was on MTV. It wasn't too bad for Avril Lavigne to be honest.

Avril - Chop Suey
I think she knew about 5 words of the entire song and mumbled over the mic for the rest .
Marilyn Manson - The KKK Took my Baby Away
Thankfully, Dee Dee didn't have to hear this.
Travis - Fake Plastic Trees
Clear winner. Even worse than Alanis's cover. :\
Good Covers = Ten Masked Men - Livin La Vida Coca and Sweet Like Chocolate.

i thought that was more a parody rather than a cover and the mumbling was kinda her 'point'
Leroy Brown by Vinny Jones has to be up there somewhere doesn't it?

I think I should nominate All Saints cover of the Red Hot Chili Pepper song called Under The Bridge for it broke off the central melody in a most destructive way.

I actually liked that :/
(Best cover ever was Tori Amos' Smells like Teen Spirit btw, though U2's Helter Skelter comes close.)
