If I had that Taxi Driver poster in my room it would give me nightmares.

I will ofcourse frame them.

This was my first thought.
Actually, it was me second thought, my first was "I hope I'm not clicking links to gay porn".
I have just emptied my student house and I had that Fight Club one, although it was framed, which to me makes it more a picture, and less a poster.
Edit: Ok I see you agree then

Re: I just ordered 6 posters for in my new house
None of those would ever get a spot on my walls, for sure. Nor would any posters do for that sake. Why can't a wall just be a wall?

Re: I just ordered 6 posters for in my new house
I have two posters up at the moment. A Brody Dalle one, and a map of London showing the tube lines on it.
I want to put my whiteboard up, but I'm not sure where.

Re: I just ordered 6 posters for in my new house
The posters I had on my bedroom wall:
Beers of the world, 2 simpsons ones, ministry of silly walks, offbeat (handsome devil), reel big fish, foo fighters, spunge and sons and daughters.
in my living room I had a few Mr Scruff posters, a George Bush is an Idiot poster and a framed decleration of human rights.
Being a student it's kinda mandatory to have cliche posters.

Re: I just ordered 6 posters for in my new house
I have some quotes from Bush - "One of the great things about books is sometimes there aer fantastic pictures", "I think anybody who doesn't think I'm smart enough to handle the job is underestimating", etc.
I have a celtic knot motif (actually this is the cardboard around which my celtic knot t-shirt was wrapped. I still find ironic I got it from York Minster). I also have a couple of LotR* posters.
I also have a poster of a big iceberg with "hidden depths" written on it.
Pretty unstudenty, to be honest. It's the fact I leave my plates on a half finished tower and I have two shelves of CDs / wires / random computer bits that gives it away

I have a funny George Bush one, a Simpsons one, a Spiderman one, 2 Liverpool ones, and a door length Lord of The Rings one.
I also have framed film cells of Harry Potter, LoTR, and the Matrix.

Re: I just ordered 6 posters for in my new house
I don't own any posters. The last time I bought a poster was when I was 13.
And I sincerely doubt that when I reach the age of 29 I'll be getting them.
Put something up that doesn't scream "I'm a teenager give me attention", please.

I'm sure we had a posters thread about a month ago...
Oh well, I have one of a Square White Cat, another of 2 Square dogs (purple and orange) and a Bloc Party/Mystery Jets fanzine/poster thing that looks cool.

Re: I just ordered 6 posters for in my new house
I have a photograph of the Empire State Building.
It was a colour photograph which was in a calendar.
It was scanned on a Scitex Eversmart scanner at an uber high resolution.
Sent to Photoshop. Converted to greyscale. Printed as a postscript file.
Sent to OneFlow to avoid whatever kind of lame trapping some RIP's try to perform within the image.
Sent to a Fiery EXP8000 RIP for a Xerox Docucolor 8000 Digital Press.
Printed on SRA3.
Framed in a reasonably newish style, yet tasteful and simple wooden frame.
Hung on my wall.

Different strokes for different folks. Personally when I was a teenager I didn't have any posters. I simply didn't see the need nor have any desire for any. I guess for me not having posters is dreadfully immature!

I'm not sure. There's posters, then there's posters.
I wouldn't have a film poster or anything on my wall - even if I think they look cool.
It's not about immaturity with me, it's just my image - I don't like posters very much. In my view, a room shouldn't need posters to make it look interesting. Colour schemes, furniture, pictures, and other things should draw the eye. Not a big picture of some scene from Pulp Fiction, or a Gorillaz cartoon or other cult film or band.
I quite like this though:

That's the kind of thing I'd like, if I ever got round to decorating my wall(s).

I think they'll be pretty damn cool, especially in my almost entirely shining white hall towards my living room. Most of my house will be in white/antracite/silver/gray.
And yeah, maybe I am a 29 year old teenager, but I am fully enjoying it. I've got ages left to become an old prick.
edit:
and they're neatly framed ofcourse, without frame it just looks silly.

Me too.

This is true, but I think posters is an area where it's difficult to not be a cliché. Yes, you can find something wonderfully obscure and have a poster of it, but it's been done. You can find something really really unhip and then have a poster on that as some sort of quasi-ironic statement, but that's been done to death too (was it Nodrog who had a Rainbow poster?).
In the end, why bother fighting it? Just get something you like the look of. I find a map on my wall useful, and I'm fascinated by my cities geography. And I like looking at ever so vaguely attractive gothy/punky look chicks, thus Brody.
At MrL's house he had some prints from comic books which I think looked pretty cool.
p.s. Personally, I see no difference between paintings and posters. OK, sure if it's an original water-colour painted by your grandmother of the old farm she lived on that she painted on her death bed as a gift to her daughter who was dying of cancer then it might have some sentimentality, but otherwise it's basically a poster. One of the drawbacks of living in a sequence of privately rented properties is you end up seeing a thousand shitty Monet prints.

Start collecting them No one will notice them missing. Then you can have that "private rented property" feel everywhere you go

Re: I just ordered 6 posters for in my new house
I liked NB3's photo of the two stawberries. One seemed so lonely and three seemed a bit much but two was just right. At any rate I was happy to see that we had an interior decorating thread. And going over to a second page! Very nice!

Re: I just ordered 6 posters for in my new house
i have two posters. one framed one not.
one is the rat pack. a picture taken in carnegie hall new york 1961.
the other is a framed poster of two dolphins mid jump out of the water with 'spirit of freedom' written at the bottom.
However both will depart once i purchase my own humble abode. whenever i manage to scrape together enough cash ...
