Global Warming...
Well I read a really good book in the summer. It was about global warming and it was focusing mainly on the USA. It was done in the style of the president and his advisors, closely linking the president to bush etc. Anyway the main thing it was talking about was that Global warming is here and unless we do something to change it will get worse and eventually we will wipe ourselves out.
It discussed the idea of each of us having a global footprint. The average global footprint is say 5km. However due to energy usage, our homes and cars people in say the USA have a global footprint of 25km. Now the problem is that we can live happily if we each have the 5km footprint, thats harmony. However people are using more than they should. Anyway im rambling.
Back to my original point. Its really really really cold. In the summer its really really really hot. Seriously we are screwing up this planet the weather is just plain weird.
Thoughts?

An apology is in order. My schlange unfairly affects the the size of my global footprint. You all are affected unintentionally because of my 'enhanced qualities.' For this I am sorry.

To be honest im geniuenly worried about the future of this planet. If its cold now, imagine what its like in 10 years time. Also think about the UK.
When the polar icecaps melt, there will only be Birmingham, Manchester and Leeds left as well as a few other places but you can forget London and the south. Seriously though what are peoples thoughts on this global warming lark?

But yeh, it's ****ed up. Slowly people are beginning to realise but I fear it's too little too late
(not that I do anything to help except moan about it though...)

Is it anything but climate fluctuation? I ask because I'm a cynic at heart.

r u serious?
Slightly more gently have you ever investigated what happened to the vikings who lived in greenland pig? Climate change is rather natural. That said I'm opposed to releasing huge amounts of pollution into the atmosphere regardless as it impacts negatively on large numbers of people. Acid rain, for example, is quite obviously due to human interference.

that must have been what I objected to. the topic of the thread. my objection could have nothing to do with the post quality. why would it?
no no. i'm obviously a dictatorial tyrant who's bent on spreading nothing but evil. it'd be a waste of time to try and actually 'understand' anything I post. Instead the best course of action must of course be to just automatically assume that i'm wrong.

Re: Global Warming...
If you dont mind reading books on global warming i would recommend reading State of Fear by Michael Crichton. Its a fictional thriller but based around global warming and he gives a lot of scientific info with references to al the literature he gets it from, quite an interesting read seeing as he argues against global warming or at least against it being as drastic as others may think..

Re: Global Warming...
It's alright we have coal based power stations providing us with electricity for central heating in the winter and we have highly consumptive air-conditioning systems to keep us cool in the summer.
We can cope with the extreme weather the seasons bring us these days.

What?!
In the entire world???!!!
That shit would suck.
Imagine the only places it would be possible for you to live would be Birmingham, Manchester or Leeds.
Surely most people would kill themself when faced with a choice as stark as that

Scientists are now saying its water vapour and not Co2 thats causing it.

its going to take centuries and by that time we will all be dead. so enjoy yourselves now!

Re: Global Warming...
maybe it will take centuries maybe it wont, fact is no one knows, but what we do know is that what we are doing is wrong and we can help out perhaps by changing what we do...

Then we, and our descendents are still going to have to deal with the (potentially very serious) consequences.
