Ok I finally came up with a better idea. First cathaar and terran would have to be combined and some ship stats would have to be corrected. The new race would have normal and subverting ships making them similar and different than zik. To farther distinguissh the races the new race would have the ability to research a rebuild technique. This technique would let them rebuild up to 15% of their ships lost in battle. The ships rebuilt and the percentages of each one would be totally random. The race would start out with 1% rebuilding automatically. There would be the oppurtunity to research this field 5 times. The first research would leave them with 3% rebuilding and with each new research the % would increase by increments ok 3 until 15% is reached. Finally, it would take 5 ticks for the ships to be rebuilt and to be opperational again. Also the race would have the eta that terran ships had. The stats would have to be worked out but they would probably be a weaker race. I'm saying research would take the normal time and construction would be one tick faster Anyone have any thoughts?

im in favor of the pirates. But if u alter it a bit, you could make it so ppl from each race (murderers, thiefs, exiles etc) wich is why they have ships from the diffrent races have come together. After all arnt all pirates just people who have banded together you would change the stats so they have poorer armour and weapons of course because wouldnt you be run down if u were running from the law

Yes, your mad. Merge terran and caths also giving them steal ships. THEN let them rebuild a very large proportion of ships that are lost? That would be a SUPER race.

how about a 5th race with ships thats armour depreciates tick by tick... that means that the enemy could build, steal etc huge fleets but the longer they keep the fleets alive the weaker they get...this would make it a harder race to play and more of a challenge to defend roids and the latter stages of the round..

If you paid attention to what I said and could actually comprehend english. Only the new race would be able to rebuild ships and subvert. The other 3 races would be xan, zik, and the cat terran mix. Pay attention please.

The idea sounds good to me... But when you lose many ships attacking a planet, you won't attack that planet most of the times. So to make it valuable increase the value a bit. How about 25%?
(@Mek: what happens when the armor reaches -1?)

the armour wont reach -1, the ship will just die when it reaches 0 :P

Ok my mistake, it's not a cath/terran super race its just a stronger version of ziks. Ziks are overpowered anyway so you want to let them rebuild 15% of lost ships? And since they are stealing it's just going to be easier to farm ships to the top. Also how do you actually merge Cath and Terran? High armour low init EMP? Low armour high init normal? Or maybe Low armour Low init and EMP? Oh wait, that's still Caths. It wouldnt be so simple to mix two races.

As far as i was aware, stealing is just another name for subverting. So it would be two races with steal/subvert, unless you have a different meaning for it?

There is a very large difference between stealing and subverting.
Stealing is the permenant capture of an enemy ship during battle, whether by Steal ships that die or do not die in the process.
Subversion is similar to a 'stealing EMP' (i orginally called it Psi EMP, but that's another story). The idea was, that a ship would EMP is target and make it change sides for that tick of battle only - ie, the temporary capture of an enemy ship during battle. The subverted ship is returned to its original owner after the battle is complete.
The advantage of subversion was that you had the potential to use the enemy's ships against them to make up for weaknesses in your targeting etc, the disadvantage was obviously that it wasnt permant.
The advantage of stealing was that you had a whole array of ships that you would gradually accumulate over time to augment your own fleet, the disadvantages being that it took time to get enough ships to make it worthwhile, it (used) to be inefficinet as the stealers died, and most importantly the stolen ships were not useful during the battle they were captured in (though useful for all subsequent battles).

It may just be me, but I don't think Mek's race will be popular... Personally I'd not like to rebuild ships everytime again. When you aren't there for a week, all your progress will be lost again... think of your value.

We could also consider some sort of "biomechanical" race where the "ships" regenerate, multiply and/or morph into stronger classes. Would be great, but ofc we need to lower their stats (armor, damage, init perhaps, etc.) to have a fair fight.

Yuck! PDS = towerdefense and that sucks, where is the fun on this one? Besides, that nobody is going to attack PDS planets, nor are they gonig to succeed in any attack they launch...
I say its fine with the 4 races we have!

That's the only 5th race that is worth a though so far! As it got some completey new elements!
Mmh a possibility is that this race does not steal or subvert but infects the other ship's system with a virus that mutates it to a ship of its own. So for example, 5 Bio shippies target frigates, than they infect an enemy frigate and it will still be able to shoot, but while battling it will turn into a bio ship frigate and will belong to the Biorace, lets call the race "The Swarm"
And on production, if you have 5000 fighters you can pay the half of what costs a battleship and transform them into the other shiptype. But you have to make it like 5000 fighter are 150k value and after transforming you only got batthelships worth 75k value, so that its only a makeshift if you are attacked by someone with antifighter or so...
But really, let stay with 4 races
