Malouda started yesterday, replacing Ribery who has been a sensation in France but struggled against the Swiss.
Who would Juninho replace? Or would you play 4-2-3-1, and take out Ronaldo??

Ronaldo had improved a little bit and i would like to know what the **** happened to Ronaldinho, in the game you could see that when he wants to he could through the AUS player pretty easy, but instead he kept passing the ball. Brazil always suck in the early games, i hope they start to improve for the next ones!

To give an idea of how much even non-brazilans are suprised by ronaldinho before their first game gary linekar basically said he was a one good world cup performance away from being classed alongside pele/maradona. At that stage i agreed with him, when playing at his normal level he is unstopable but hes just been absent, kaka and adriano have really stood up and taken the slack.
Credit to tunisia they nearly pulled it off, spain's class showed towards the end.
btw for anyone watching the bbc coverage, am i the only one to think martin oneil has 'issues' he seems determined to disagree with or rub up those sitting alongside. Has he got some sort of problem with marcel desailly? everytime desailly ventured an opinion oneil seemed determined to counter it regardless of what it was, they don't seem to appear on screen together anymore and now alan hansen and him seem to be sniping at each other. Is he especially pissed over the england job?

The only slack adriano has picked up has been off the elastic in ronaldo's shorts as he slowly loses that weight.

Re: [football] General world cup antics!
Fact is both strikers for Brazil look like dead weight and in fact, it might be worth more effort in sticking another runner in midfield to make space for ronaldo by pulling away markers than persisting in the current mentality of the brazilian team which ends up with Kaka and Ronaldinho getting horribly bogged down 2/3 of the way up the pitch.

They're looking good, we'd better not lose to Sweden later tonight - facing Germany on home soil would not be my cup of tea.

Wow, that was an easy win for Germany, I really wonder what was up with the Ecuador players. Now we can sit back and watch what England has to show.

Wasn't that kind of the 'b-'-team with such a lot of changes? anyway great game, especially by Klose

Re: [football] General world cup antics!
Owen is done for the rest of the tournament rendering the 4 strikers decision hilarious, especially since one of them is Theo Walcott, who has yet to play a minute for england at the WC. Lack of faith, anyone?
Beckham doesnt have a clue how to play Right midfield on that showing and his crossing and delivery was truly woeful - the only reason hes an asset to the team.
Owen Hargreaves looked ok till the second half collapse, and in particular when he lost larsson for the goal, naive naive naive play around a world class striker.
Joe Cole put so much into the first 45 minutes that we was pretty ineffective in the second half - apart from his cross. Yet again he didnt use ashley cole on the overlap even once.
Frank Lampard has had an APPALLING group stage. Seriously. If england stick with 4-4-2, Lampard has to go - you cant stick with misfiring players for this long, its simply not feasible - no other country would.
In conclusion
a/ Unless England build their team around Gerrard, they are ****ed. Stop accomodating lampard when he seems to be a waste of space.
b/ LARSSON \o/ LARSSON \o/ LARSSON
I played "The Magnificent Seven" at full blast.
I ****ing love that man. Seven glorious years, too many goals to count, a 6-2 thrashing of the huns, 2 trebles, back on top in Scotland, 2 goals in the UEFA cup final, turned down man utd to stay with us, gave us a years notice to find a replacement before becoming a barcelona legend, coming on and winning the champions league final by coming off the bench and setting up two goals magnificently, sending celtic into the champions league group stages, then a last minute equaliser to **** england.
If only he was scottish

Re: [football] General world cup antics!
The first half looked rather good, but suddenly in the 2nd it all stoped. Sweden played horrible in the first half but became pretty good in the 2nd. both teams have yet to show that they can play 90 minutes of good football. England was lucky to get only 1 swedish goal at the beginning of the first half, what was Backham doing there?

Good first half, a good goal although a bit surprising the goalie didn't get it, a goal more wouldn't have been undeserved though..
but Sweden not winning still was robbery, they did have the biggest chances and totally owned the second half.. shouldn't have substituted Allbäck

Re: [football] General world cup antics!
You were surprised that the goalie didn't save Cole's goal?
It was a herculean effort to get as close to saving it as he did.
He was hardly badly positioned before the shot.

And on Michael Owen, he's only twisted his knee. Okay it looked fairly violent but im pretty sure he'l be back within 3months around start of the season time.
and im pretty sure the formation will go something like this:
Robinson
Carragher* Terry Campbell** A.Cole
Hargrief
Becks Lamps Gerrard Joe Cole
Rooon***
*Carragher in if Neville doesnt make Ecuador either which i doubt he will now.
**Campbell if they decide not to risk rushing rio back from a groin strain. Bit of a blow as Rio has arguably been the best player in the England team so far consistently.
***Rooney up front, Crouch coming on later in the game if its all gone pete tong.

Re: [football] General world cup antics!
'twisted knee' being the clinical diagnosis.
He's ****ed, gone, forget about him.
Likely badly damaged the medial collateral ligament by that fall.
He'll be extremely lucky to be back in 3 months (he's shit at recovering from injuries)
Call up Defoe before the school kid gets to play

Re: [football] General world cup antics!
I nearly vomited when it happened
Freddy 'that'll make him feel better' Shepherd
apparently the FA compensation isn't enough, and the insurance that newcastle additionally took isn't enough (which doesn't on first sight make much sense...).
He says he'll be back to collect his world cup winner medal, i doubt he'll have to bother
btw the argentinian 'b' squad was better than the dutch 'b' squad but lacking any decent finishers, boring game but made argentina more scary.
ive made nesta my fantasy league captain, if the italians **** this up i will not be happy, hopefully they'lll beat the czechs and usa can beat ghana to get to the second round. If they do end up meeting brazil id honestly give them a chance, considering brazils performance to date especially against australia.

I hoped that Brazil would play their full team in an effort to get some confidence in the players. They didn't.
A Robinho/Adriano front-line would be awesome, little and large creating havoc. Ronaldo might have scored, but he's just out of place when he doesn't have the ball at his feet and plenty of time on the ball.

That gilberto couldn't defend to save his life. That said I'd support bringing in juninho if it meant ronaldinho played in the centre, he got so much more of the ball and they looked far better for it.
