How to beat Websense
Im in work , i need access to my emails regarding a birthday present for my other half , and websense blocks hotmail & all other web based emails.
Can anyone find me a way through this bloody annoying little program? Shell programs?

Re: How to beat Websense
The easiest way is usually to use a proxy site to access via (although POST requests always seem to go a bit funny, so sending mails might not be easy). However, most proxy sites are blocked via most Websense regimes (I'm having a similar problem at the moment). There are ocassionally ones which slip through - google for Web Proxy service and have a few tries.

http://www.snoopblocker.com
https://proxify.com
Or, software wise use something like HTTP Tunneling. Most cost etc. but you can get one freeware one which works cool.

Re: How to beat Websense
Alternately, low-tech solution is simply get someone else you trust to check your mail/sites for you and forward on the relevent items by e-mail.

Another way is to ask someone you know to be your SSH host.

No , because what Websense detects appears to be the scripts themselves , hence i can visit www.hotmail.com no problem, but itll block me if i attempt to login.
And neither of those two proxy's worked

Re: How to beat Websense
Mine blocks it too. Luckily my phone can access it (and MSN Messenger too - I was so impressed!). Does your mobile have a browser?
You should really have put your work e-mail down as correspondence address if you're that worried about it

As Dante said, try and get someone to be your proxy.
I had a friend who set me up a ssh account with http tunnelling enabled. I entered his details and voila, hello internet.

Make sure you untick "Remove scripts" on the proxify one (it gets past my school's websense...) and on the SnoopBlocker one, tick all the boxes should work.

Err you do realise that you may be subject to disicplinary action or worse if you're caught circumventing your companies protection software.
The simplest way is to sneak into the IT managers office while he's on lunch and check the IP and Proxy setting on his machine. He'll always have everything enabled.

gmail allows POP access. would that get round it? you'd have to set up the POP settings in the account itself though, which you would probably have to do from home, but then you can just use Thunderbird or whatever it is you use to get at the emails directly.

Even if didn't, Gmail has pretty decent auto-forwarding rules which means you can have whatever you like forwarded to an accessible account.

aah yeap, now you mention it, it does. I only use the POP though. The disadvantage is that he won't be able to reply will he? and also if he needs it RIGHT NOW, he would have to let someone into his account to set things up

well, most e-mail clients let you change things like the reply-to address, if not the address it says it's being sent from too.

Gets round all imposed proxies I've seen by simply encrypting and then passing requests to a server in Germany which does all the hard work for you.
Not as fast as it could be, but it lets me surf porn over my 3G connection through Vodafone's content filtering.

I use hotmail and have done so for years. Well I say "use" it's more that I check it just often enough to keep my account from being temporarily deleted or whatever.

1. I Work for a Major Offshore Bank. The building has 350 people. The IT Department is 10-12 strong. There is no "Single IT Officer" , and there are no ways to get onto a system with the relative passwords and logins to do what you are suggesting.
2. I work for a major offshore bank. Their IT policy is shite, as it is with most clearings banks. Hence why im looking to move to a private bank in the near future. I honestly dont give a rats ass about it, and fortunately i have a flatscreen monitor which faces the wall, and thus cannot be seen. Should someone wander across , i just Alt-F4 the window.

If you are paranoid like me, something like that wont help you. Even if they dont occasionally use remote access software to do stuff on your machine they may still logon remotely to update/patch something and see your process names including something like "Hotmail - Internet Explorer". Not to talk about browser history, proxy/network logs or other stuff like that - too much potential evidence you dont have control over.

I phoned someone i know and got them to log into my hotmail account from their end, and give me the details i needed.
All other roads ended in abject failure

Hello Kurashima.
I have my hotmail set up so that it notifies me of new mail on my mobile by SMS. You can then reply and get more of the message sent to your phone, I think you can also send mail (only SMS length though) through your phone too. Its a bit long winded but it does work.
