"Why tax illegal drugs?
There are two reasons why illegal drugs are taxed:
Taxing the Underground Economy - The fact that the business of dealing marijuana and controlled substances is illegal does not exempt it from taxation. Legitimate business transactions are taxed. Dealing drugs is a large part of a previously untaxed underground economy.
Providing a Source of Revenue - 25% of drug tax collections are allocated to the State's General Fund. "
Makes perfect sense to me

I think the state of Texas (may have been elsewhere) once had a short-lived attempt to put a tax on Cocaine.

It's real as far as I can determine, unless ink.org is a hoax too. And a damn good idea imo. Stupid to only sell stamps at 100$ or more tho, 10$ stamps would sell quite alot merely on souvenir value.

Whether or not the web site is fake, the fact remains that all the states I know of do have exactly such a tax (states I specifically know of: Minnesota. But it was implied at the time that every state had the same deal).
Certainly whoever is in charge of selling pot licenses has the easiest job on the planet (very 'Maytag Man-esque'), but there is such a job:/

It's real, it also raises them over a million dollars in fines for non-payment of taxes every year. I have to say this is an absolutely fabulous idea, drug dealers SHOULD be paying tax on their incom, legal or not
See here for a relevant report.

Well yeah, loss of revenue is one of the many reasons why making drugs illegal is stupid.

Sales of the stamps brought in about $200 last year

obviously doesnt work then does it. Conceptually this is just a sneaky way of justifying holding onto the money found in raids (If you read on they fine people who get busted - This sounds far too much like a joke to me).

Am I misreading something or are the two answers below contradictory? (I'm very tired so it's possible I'm just having temporary dyslexia or something)
(this is from their FAQ page)
Q. Do I have to provide my name and address when purchasing drug tax stamps?
A. No. KDOR sells drug tax stamps without asking for any identification, demographic information, e.g. name, social security number. KDOR associates cannot share any information relating to drug tax stamp purchases with anyone, including law enforcement agencies.
Q. Can I purchase drug tax stamps through the mail?
Yes. The purchaser will need to provide their mailing address in order for the Department to send the drug tax stamps.

You are indeed having a moment of madness.
You can buy them anonymously if you do it in person, if you do it by mail they obviously need your address to send you the stamps!

Think about it logically will you? What was Al Capone busted for? Yup, tax evasion!
This is exactly the same but streamlined, drug dealers either pay their taxes or when they get caught they not only get any possessions/cash that can be proven to be financed by drugs (i.e. illegally) impounded but they get hammered for taxes & fines for non-payment of taxes on their stash/projected sales as well.

Yeah see NOW it makes sense. My common sense seems to be taking a nap. For some reason it sounded to me like you had to give your address either way. Dumb Nicole.
