When I was at school you took on someone a "square go" the last guy who pulled a blade when I was there got a mass kicking It was like an unwritten rule. You don't need to chib someone to "learn the boundaries of society and that you come to understand the consequences of life." Usually a good kicking can teach that or a decent upbring.

I think its pretty naive to believe that a 'good kicking' would seriously change someone's behavior in the longrun. A 12 year old would have to be pretty screwed up to think that stabbing someone in the face was a good idea - a few smacks isnt going to undo the damage of lacking a 'decent upbringing'.

We should really just accept that shes probably a broken person. I suppose we could pretend that the 'right treatment' now will help her become an Upstanding Adult, but it seems doubtful.

The problem is that being "harsh" doesn't actually work most of the time either. Do you think someone who has been in an incredibly harsh maximum security prison where they are raped, will probably become addicted to all sorts, etc will be in a position to act as a functional member of society?

Think of it like forum posting. A little constructive criticism can be quite helpful. How will people know they're being shit if they're not told, etc. However, if people are flamed too much they tend to get worse and worse until they're banned.

Interesting point of view, What I am saying is that the status quo is not working. You only need to look at your town's schemes/council estates/ghettos and think... "Hmm this area has went down hill." I know it has in mines.

The thing is people get told they are doing wrong, but it all comes down to personal choice... You can choose to flame someone or you choose not to.
You can choose to stab some one or you can choose not to.
