if there wouldnt be protection you would need to allocate bonuss to siege weapons to defend against all ships types.. Xandathrii would spare bonuss on siege weapons.. but i dont think any Xan player would waste bonuss on siege weapons anyway.. only to get Haunts..
Protection is necessary. Older PA players take for granted the time required for new or returning players to ease themselves into it and so become a player that can be involved in all facets of the game.
