Coldplay's X&Y
I bought it today and frankly it's quite terrific.
Although each track sounds more or less the same and different from the previous albums.
P.S. I got a free poster too.

I still prefer their previous album but I didn't listen to it very frequently yet.

I have the other Coldplay albums and i don't think i'll buy the new one. When i heard their new song on Radio 1, i didn't realise it was the new one until the dj said so.
I'm getting a bit bored with the same old coldplay tbh.

I was dancing with someone earlier to Yellow, which was fun, but coldplay are still shit.

You got a poster? I didnt
I think it's the worst of the 3 albums, but Fix You is just brilliant. I hope the others grow on me though.

I've heard nothing about it so far other than 'yeah it's more Coldplay', I doubt I'll buy it.

I really liked their first two albums, but I haven't liked what I've heard so far from this one (4 or 5 tracks) quite as much. I may buy it anyway though.

We don't want your kind round here.
edit : I don't really like Coldplay. Their bland, unergetic tunes signify much that is wrong with "popular" rock music these days. Or have they changed recently?

Bland tones? No, not bland at all, but rich and deep in texture. If your interests lies in fast, hard, loud music, which I like once in a while too, you may be temporarly tone deaf to subtlety.

Definitely. I think that's why I think REM are (mostly) poor and don't get me started on U2.
I don't know about loudness though. Can you define that (except for just more volume obviously...). Is it something to do with more of the track played at a higer proportion of the peak volume? Genuine question.

Re: Coldplay's X&Y
My interests lie in hard loud music but I am not tone deaf to subtlety I just think Coldplay are dull.
Edit: I do like non hard non loud music as well (Katie Melua being one example) so it's not that my tastes are stuck in a rut.

Re: Coldplay's X&Y
I always thought of their second album to be dull in a pleasant way, the third one is just plain dull as far I've listened it.
Oh yeah, and I think REM's dull as well but I like U2's older stuff and I think Vertigo is decent.

One of my favourite bands are Eels, and I like a lot of folksy music, but it's just with Coldplay / Travis / REM / U2 / even some of the Manics my hearing just can't hear the tune and it just sounds like a dirge to me. I presume I literally have a hearing impairment but then again when I hear a Coldplay et al song being played it's not like I see anyone else jumping around with glee either.

Re: Coldplay's X&Y
ehh, seriously there's nothing overly magnificent (bar Fix You) in their new album. once again, i am forced to recommend: Mae ( www.purevolume.com/mae - note the track "Painless" especially) & Circa Survive ( www.purevolume.com/circasurvive - all tracks available are great) for true subtlely beautiful (and yet not dull!) rock .

It's very difficult to define loudness, it's almost like trying to define red.
With Coldplay, I just hear so much richness - musical subtleties that are continually going on in the background, or whenever they change key. I have quite a musical ear, so find it relatively easy to spot things like this. I suppose for people who don't have an ear for music, they are less able to appreciate bands such as Coldplay. I also love Muse, especially for the fact that they have so many transitions in their songs between piano and 'rock', it's these things that really make me love music.
Songs such as Clocks and The Scientist just seem to have this power about them, some kind of energy that feeds into me whenever I hear them. It's the same with something like Plug In Baby, where so much just builds up and into you.
A band like Muse (the best example I have) aren't loud. I suppose that this is because they have quiet elements of their songs and then go into the powerful loud parts. However, bands that play at full volume all the way through I suppose are loud - and this may be why I don't really enjoy them.

Red is the hue of the long-wave end of the visible spectrum, evoked in the human observer by radiant energy with wavelengths of approximately 630 to 750 nanometers.
Loudness is the quality of a sound which is high in volume (amplitude, or sound pressure). Loudness is the perception of a sound wave's amplitude.

Surely you know exactly what I meant. It's the idea of describing a colour - it can never work as a 'dark pink', etc.
And I think you misunderstand how myself and Dante meant 'loudness' - we were trying to describe loud music as a concept rather than a description.

Re: Coldplay's X&Y
if i want pretty and subtle music i listen to the arcade fire. if i want music with no structure or development or emotional depth i listen to coldplay.

'Til Kingdom Come is by far the best track on the album. No piano in it also, which makes it less 'same-y'.

Rather than 'loudness', I think you're wanting to refer to the 'dynamics' of the music...

saying muse arent loud because they have quiet bits is like saying hitler was nice because he was kind to dogs.
