Dumb F*cks
Why are people stupid?
I have to use the tube for work everyday so I buy monthly travel cards. The last one I bought a few days ago has not worked since it was issued, it's fooked.
So I was going through Holborn station yesterday and I go over to the attendant and ask him to let me through. I explain that my card does not work.
he looked at my card in my BR sleeve and immediatley advised me that it did not work because I had too many cards in my wallet. Now let me explain here, I do retain all my travel cards in my wallet and just add the new one to the top of the pile as you never know when the tube will fook up and you need proof to claim your money back. There is currently quite a few tickets in there.
Anyway, I looked at my cards then looked at the attendant and asked 'why would that stop my card from working?'.
I replied 'but it hasnt worked at all since it was issued'
At this point he strugged his shoulders and said 'Well I dont know why is stops them working it just does'
I nearly started laughing at this point so had to walk on a little perplexed as I tried to figure out why exactly having too many cards in a wallet would stop my new one working, expecially since it hadnt worked from the beginning.
I could find an explanation except that the attendant was a kn*b.

did you actually try to take out the additional cards to test his theory?

No, because he was saying that because my new card had been rubbed up against the old ones, it had 'somehow' disabled it and that is why it no longer worked.

He speaks the truth, but it depends on the type of card, if they made their card like that too many cards will **** it up. If you put it in your wallet once its already ****ed, so get a new one and save all the others at home.

How come it only just affected new cards? I've had loads more cards in my wallet before and they have always worked fine.
I'm sticking to my 'he is a kn*b' theory for the time being.

If you put too many magnetic stripe cards together you get a stronger magnetic field which will corrupt the data of all the cards.
This is not the case with plastic mag cards (Credit/Debit), but only the cardboard ones.
Looks like the stupid bloke isn't the guy from Britsh Rail.

I had a photo copier card for school. It worked till I put it in my wallet with all the other cards and then it went boom and since all the money value is stored on the card as a rewritable (perhaps the tube card is as well) I lost my money

Perhaps I am the attendant subject to your harassment. I'll never look you in the eyes again. Aristocrat swine.

No you don't, since it's not a uniform magnetic field (the direction of the field varies over the strip, that's how information is stored on it)
It's like saying that if you pile enough iron together, you'll get a magnet, just by the amount alone.

Why would this be? What's the difference between plastic and cardboard? They're both nonmagnetic and dielectric.

It's one of those unexplained scientific conundrums.
Put tube tickets together, they lose data.
Put credit cards together, they don't lose data.
They just do.

Maybe you got too close to a large magnetic field, such as large speakers at a club.
That might also explain the brain damage.
