DVD to DivX

I bought Spy Game & Ocean's Eleven today at a special price in HMV today but I want to make a copy of it - in DVD format for use with DVD players and in DivX in use for my PC in the event of a dvd breakdown. I have the receipt (if someone gives me a scanner ofc.) if ppl are doubting this (:

I have a range of programs that I've searched for on the internet and there's this one where it's split the movie into 5 1GB parts but I haven't a clue how to burn it onto a DVD for use in a DVD player & (b) a DivX version

Thanks as per usual

http://www.vcdhelp.com/dvdripping

there are a few **** tutorials on the site but alot of helpful ones.

unless you have a dvd burner you will want to go from dvd to svcd/vcd/xvcd etc.

what i would do, is go from dvd to divx, then when the dvd goes tits up, convert the divx to (s)vcd.

i dont know much about ripping dvds (since i dont have a dvd drive), but going from divx to (s)vcd is easy enough, or (s)vcd to divx.

Starbucks is on a distinguished road
Making a SVCD is quite difficult, and may require "buying" some software in the sense of a DVD Encoder to encode the DVD back onto a DVD through the DVD Writer, as i said this software can be easily "bought" through various sources

I havent done much stuff like this

but as said www.vcdhelp.com is quite comprehensive
