Re: advocaat
OK, so we have this lad Arjen Robben, who's terrorising the Czech defense, and Andy van der Meyde, who's getting in good positions but not doing much.
I know, lets take them BOTH off.

Re: advocaat
-after 20 mins 2-0, we finally play 4-3-3 with a proper leftwinger (robben) instead of van der vaart
- thanks to the referee we don't get 2 penalties first half. (should have won 1st half 5-1 or summet)
- then he bring -off all people- bosvelt. to "restore balance". we go back tot 4-4-2, a system that never worked for us.
- bosvelt doesn't cover nedved, nedved hits the bar.
- we're 100% on defence.
class, advocaat, class. i don't know any other coach we could **** things over like this.

And van Nistelrooy needs to learn what being on side feels like. He might even like it if he gives it a chance.

That ref wasn't very fair. Nistelrooy should have had a penalty in the first half, as he was clearly pulled down. I think he was gay for Nedved

It's fairly standard for players to drift offside for much of the match, then run onside when there's an attack on.
Perhaps Henry should change for you as well?

Re: advocaat
advocaat is a cowardish and above all clueless coach who doesn't like his team playing in their best line-up. 'don't use your strong points, make sure you eliminate the opponents strong points'.
that's the way he thinks.

Saw half the match, saw terrible refereeing and coaching decisions,
That last Czech goal was well done though...

Re: advocaat
czek were good - they deserved to win.
advocaat just demonstrated how cowardice a team coach can be and for that they deserved to loose against a team which has the faith thru the whole game and didnt give up (having 2 goals at 21 minutes is harsh) and czek are fighter they will score until 90 minutes end no matter how many goals they have allready.
my favorite to win this EURO after France.

Re: advocaat
I saw the interview with Advocaat by Jack van Gelderen a few minutes after the match... Jack was pushing it a bit and Advocaat got really pissed and said something along the lines of "yeah OK, it's all my fault we lost, I take full blame now can we get on" in a rather aggitated tone.
Childish that man.
And what's up with that Bosveldt dude? I mean, he's all wrinkly and stuff! Why would you put someone like him in your team?

Re: advocaat
hehe, i thought the players still had a job to do too, but obviously its all down to the manager The players are the ones who go out there and perform, its not advocaats fault you didnt take your chances, although i do admit, he souldnt have taken off robben ;p

The Czechs got their chalk when Advocaat took off Robben, so the Dutch didn't stand a chance.

The manager has ultimate responsibility over the results. You cannot ask any more of the players than to be playing well in their position, which they quite clearly were. However, when a result was formed so obviously by the results of the manager through the match (Robben off, go to a flat 4-4-2, etc) I can't see why the players should be blamed in this instance. Should we shout at Rooney for playing badly, if Sven decided to play him as a goalkeeper? Should we get angry at Totti et al because they're not attacking enough?

yes, ok, because putting rooney in a position he isnt used to is the same as putting bosvelt in his normal position....from now on i think ill accept that every match that some1 loses is due to the manager

Re: advocaat
Two things:
Why have Advocaat in the first place and pay him more money than last time?
Why on earth is Bosvelt in the squad? Advocaat could have other* Dutch players instead of him.
*That I don't know of.

Dunno, ask the KNVB.

Bosvelt was brought in as replacement for Van Bommel, who couldn't go because of an injury. Frankly, I don't know who else could have gone - possibly De Jong, although he is young and inexperienced, so not a fully reliable factor.
Having Bosvelt in the selection is a tad useless, but not a drama. Putting him on the field for Robben is a cockup that proves Dick Advocaat has the sanity of Charles Manson on LSD.

I guess it's like bringing Heskey on in England's first game.

Re: advocaat
Well, not entirely.
Bosvelt isn't completely crap, unlike Heskey. It's just that Advocaat took off our most threatening player, at the same time crippling our attack and causing chaos in the back as we suddenly switched from 4-3-3 to a 4-4-2-like setup. I won't even go into his other two substitutions.

Re: advocaat
In fairness to Advocaat I can understand his logic. The game was full of attack after attack and it was basically a toss of the coin who would score next. Trying to change it was understandable - although i dont agree with it and definitely not with his way of doing it (I was amazed when the comentator said robben was coming off)
But more importanly - why is that teams in this competition are taking to defending a 1 goal lead instead of pressing on when they are the better team at that point in the game (England v France, Italy v Sweden for examples other than this game)? Its stupid.

I don't.
As you said, the game was attack after attack - taking off your attacking force (v.d. Meyde came off after Robben as well) kind of turns it into a free for all for Czech Rep, which is exactly what happened.
And I fully agree - it's stupid and never works, yet trainers all around keep doing it.

The thing is, it always very nearly works. It's a viable tactic, it just requires a bit of luck, and crippling yourself with 30 minutes to go is never a bright idea.

The dutch camp have excellent man management.
The paraphrased quote from one of their staff being 'Kluivert complains about being behind van Nistelrooy, and to this we say 'You should have played better at Barcelona''
