English Driver's Lisence
A friend of mine (and maybe myself) might be going abroad for studies next year, and he was wondering how much it costs to get your drivers lisence in England, given you're 100% comfortable with driving from private driving lessons already. Anyone feel like filling me in?

Re: English Driver's Lisence
I know it costs £55 to sit the actual examination. There is also the theory test which costs about £20 then. There is a huge waiting list in some areas though, I had to wait around 10 weeks for mine. You can find out more information at http://www.dvla.gov.uk/ . It seems you also have to pay £38 to get a provisional license.

Re: English Driver's Lisence
it was £36 for my Provisional. I don't know if it is any more for foreign folk. Also i believe that if you have a Full EU license you should be able to use it other here, but i'm not sure

yes, a valid licence from any EU member country can be used instead of a UK one

Yes, they do. Sadly, the correct side is the left.

There's the left side and the wrong side.
The only reason the French drive on the right is because the English drive on the left.

Re: English Driver's Lisence
actually, the french drive on the right so your 'sword arm' is on your right, which makes highway killing more difficult.
This rule was introduced by napoleon, and indeed you silly englishmen had to do it 'the other way' which kinda means that you are SAVAGE BASTARDS

And when that expires EU citizens can apply for a UK one instead without having to sit any tests.

Re: English Driver's Lisence
It would be so much better if we brits could just switch sides.
Then we could get better cars for cheaper prices.
