You arent eating enough and you arent eating often enough. Split your daily food into 5 or 6 smaller meals and try to eat something every 3 hours or so. Aim for around 2000 calories a day (yes, you should be counting if you're serious about this). Eat more protein, and make sure you arent losing more than 2 pounds a week since any more than that is going to be mostly muscle rather than fat. Do some exercise, preferably proper weight lifting. Situps will do nothing for you.

You should probably try to eat more than 3 times a day, preferably 5-6 times a day, no meals after 8 pm, this keeps your metabolism higher at all times (if the body has a intake of energy, it doesn't try to store fat). This naturally means all your meals should be a bit smaller.
You should also try to compose your meals a bit more so you have a nice balance of carbo/protein/fat. Your food should also be food that spreads the energy digestion in your body as slowly as possible (ie. sugar is bad cause it gives you an energy kick, and then leaves your body with a low energy value quickly).

Also do more walking, and try to go to the gym 2-3 times a week aswell, nothing burns fat like some proper fat burn excercise at the gym.

You can easily search around the internet for fitness forums where they'll explain how a good balanced diet should look like, and why it should look like that.

No it hasn't, the evidence is still fairly inconclusive. Besides, there are additional benefits to low-carb eating (mainly leptin related) which are relatively widely accepted, although none of which really apply to someone who is 15 stone.

I tried to count how many calories I am eating recently but nearly all my food doesn't seem to include this in the nutritional information. Is there some other way of working this out so that you can actually keep a decent record?

Buying food that has it in the nutritional information would be your best bet... Pretty much all supermarket food has listings, so I'm not sure what it is you're buying that doesnt (unless it's "eating out" food, which you can safely assume is going to be full of crap even without having to read a label). There's a few (reliable) sites online that have macronutrient breakdowns for various foods, so you could give that a try. www.fitday.com might have a list, I'm not sure.

Think i read somewhere today that 'fidgeting' could well be the difference between fatty and skinny.

Plus i walk everywhere so i couldn't get fat if i tried.

Yeah I saw that in the Metro, it seemed like one of the most poorly conducted scientific studies ever, unless the newspaper reporting was even worse than usual.

According to the Metro, they got a group of thin people and a group of fat people then attached some device to them that monitored how much they moved. They found that thin people tended to move more than fat people during their normal daily routines (eg they spent longer standing and less time sitting etc). Theynthey put the fat people on a diet, and got the thin ones to put on weight. After a few months they reattached the measuring devices and found that the people who had previously been fat still moved less than the ones who had been previously thin. They then concluded that the fat people were fat because they were genetically inclined to move less than the thin people - some people are simply "born to be more active than others" (actual quote).

I'm not making this up. This is seriously how the study was carried out (according to the Metro anyway). Apparently the fact that it takes more than a few months to break the ingrained habits of a lifetime never seemed to cross anyone's mind.

the benefit of a low carb diet is appetite supression that comes from the excessive digestion of protein that comes with it.

there is no 'magical effect' that comes from a low carb diet.

unsurprisingly for those of us who can actually think, the fundamental laws of physics can not be changed.

atkins works as a form of appetite suppression, fewer calories in ...

the evidence is not inconclusive. its very clear. unsurprising. and scientificly valid.

anything else has the validity of creationism.

The primary benefit of low-carb dieting is that it allows the incorporation of refeeding days, which helps to maintain high levels of leptin. This isnt particularly important for those who are overweight and trying to become 'normal sized', but it is very significant for people who have average levels of body fat and are wanting to become lean (generally sub-10% bf). As I said, low-carb diets are not suited for 99% of people and they are hideously misunderstood. However, the science behind several popular carb-controlled eating plans (NOT Atkins - I'm mainly referring to diets which involve carb-cycling such as CKD and TKD) is relatively sound.

The evidence relating specifically to ketosis causing an increased rate of fat loss is still inconclusive. If you think there's any definitive studies that refute those claims, I'd be interested in reading about them.

this is the logic behind an atkins or low carb diet.

The argument has nothing whatsoever with weightloss. Any eating plan involving taking in less than you burn will result in 'weight' being lost. The issue is what is being lost, namely the ratio of muscle to fat. The proponents of low-carb dieting generally claimed that someone who lost 5 pounds while in ketosis will have lost more fat, and less muscle, than someone who lost 5 pounds normally.

I'm going to ignore any post after the OP in this thread, because I'm a man on a mission. That or I don't have time to read the rest.

I have been known to eat a 1.5kg chicken for dinner, with mash on the side. Only if I have a carton of pineapple juice open though.

With situps, try to do 10 more every day. It should be pretty easy - have a bit of a rest if you need to but don't give up. After a while you'll be able to do 100 non-stop within a minute or two .

However, I think there must be some major difference between us physically, as if anything I eat more than you, but I do not gain weight. Maybe try walking or general exercising more. I like to do pressups every other day.
