Henman in "can play tennis" shocker
So he's actually done something noteworthy! Who woulda thought it eh?
How come he can do such a good job in front of a French crowd who blatently all hate him and were giving him no encouragement whatsoever, while in front of an English crowd at Wimbledon he falls to peices faster than a 500 year old tapestry in a tumble dryer?

You know, don't get me wrong, maybe you can play tennis - but are you one of the top-ten ranked players in the world?
No?
Henman is.

I don't think he claimed to be. You don't need to be as good / better than someone in order to criticise them. It's based on what they claim themselves, or are paid to do, etc.
If I knew a doctor who killed 50% of his patients, I'd criticise him despite the fact I don't know how to operate on people.

Is this the same wimbledon, which, up until now, was the only grand slam he had reached the quarter finals or above of?
The same wimbledon he's regularly reached the semi finals of?

Henman can play tennis very well. He never claimed to be the 'best in the world' so all this is irrelevent.

I don't know anything about tennis except that when I used to get the tram in Croydon last year at Wimbledon time it was full of people on their way there. They took up all the seats and meant I had to stand for my journey to work.

Moya or Coria will win simple.
Henman he's just a pain in ... I just dislike him since he hit some "ballgirlie" cause he was upset losing some match.

?
I enjoy watching henman. Serve volleyers, little guys like himself generally give you a few shots per rally. If your talking about boring, look at Ivanisevich or someone. Roddicks great to watch when he isnt serving, but **** me hes boring when he is.

Re: Henman in "can play tennis" shocker
yesterday there was some interesting discussion on TV about britain being a "passive" sportsnation; ie people love to watch it, but somehow fail to be succesful at it themselves.
the british tennisfederation for example has loads of recourses (think of the money wimbledon only brings), but except for henman they don't have any high ranked players.

Part of the reason is how the money is spent. In britain, tennis has traditionally been a very high class sport, and that, to an extent, is still how it is today; only recently has the initiative been taken to set up tennis programs for more people, like they have in some areas of america.

Re: Henman in "can play tennis" shocker
tennis and real hockey shouldn't be 'made available' for everybody, they already are, and if people do not want to join 'because all those posh lads' are there, so be it.

It's all to do with funding and training, and indeed having tennis courts.

Re: Henman in "can play tennis" shocker
Convincing win today, I can't believe he is doing so well though. If he keeps up this form he has a good chance in the semis.
I wonder what the odds of him getting this far were before the tournament.

No idea, but he was 5/4 second favourite for that match (chela was 4/7), and 20/1 for the tournament before it.
Hes now 9/1 4th favourite from 6 with two quarters still to play (Blue Sq)

Well he certainly played well today.
Although it looked like there was going to be a classic "Henman moment" at the start of the last game in the 3rd set.
Looking forward to the semi.
