What are the next 5 numbers in this series?
1 3 7 12 18 26 35 45 56 69
When I realised what was going on, I stared at the paper for a full 20 seconds marvelling at the cleverness.

The number goes up by 1 unless it has already occured in the sequence.
In that case it goes up by two.

The series is negatively defined - ie, its defined by the numbers that arent included in it, rather than the ones that are.
The numbers that are getting added on every time are the numbers that dont occur in the series. eg, the first 5 numbers added on are 2, 4, 5, 6, 8, which are also the first 5 numbers that arent in the series.
Its a mathematical representation of something like that
