[Music] After 25 years, who still remains "Cool" to a modern generation

With the current crop of boybands and plastic pop crap being about as memorable as last nights curry, and just as disposable, the question id like to put to GD is

"Which musicians who have had careers of 25+ years are still "cool" to a modern generation and making songs that people under 40 still listen to"

Kura's Choice : David Bowie

Re: [Music] After 25 years, who still remains "Cool" to a modern generation

I was about to name Mötorhead but Vaio beat me to it. The Doors would belongs in a thread where bands are named whose most important musicians died 25+ years ago. Then I thought of Iron Maiden but although they probably never ever were cool in the eyes of the big public. Metallica almost qualifies but I can't think of anyone else so it'll have to do.

Re: [Music] After 25 years, who still remains "Cool" to a modern generation

IM actually going to have to rule "The Doors" out of this one, as the thread states "Still making music" and The Doors most definetely are not. Likewise The Who, who really arent making new music for the under 40 generation. Tom Waits is debatable since yes, he was influential, yes hes still making music, but no, its not really stuff that anyone except his original fans are still listening to.

not that consider them all cool but I can imagine U2, REM, The Doors (to just name a couple) will still be quite 'cool' amongst a rather big audience 25 years later from now. Nirvana for sure by the way. Kurt will be todays Jim.

Maybe Red hot chili peppers as well

np: Tom Waits - Sins of My Father

While the new following is smallish, I'm not alone in having discovered Mr. Waits in the last 5 years or so.

Beatles, Stones, Bowie.
Adding support for Tom Waits.
I's also like to propose John Peel for British Dictator 2005.

Likewise Madonna unless someone can prove to me her first ever album was released in 1979 (which is 25 years).

Hes not releasing new Music
Hes not making new Music
He therefore doesnt qualify for this thread
Please create a "Which Dead musicians are still seen as really cool, even though they were found dead on the shitter eating a cheeseburger and regularly smoked enough crack to kill a herd of elephants" thread.

Thank you.

Upon reading this...I decided I should go back and read you original question, and no...The Beatles are not a valid answer...but they still ROCK!!
