I dont care really, because theres not been problems with moderation for a good few months now.

Get over it, there hasnt. The modding has been almost non existant, ie, good. Why not leave it as it is unless theres a crisis? Theres a nice equilibrium at the moment apart from the odd thread, and the forums are "calmer" than they ever have been. Leave it be, eh.

This is a bad idea.
I'm a head mod on some other forums and if you do this, people request to be mods.
The best type are those who would never ask to be mod. They just kind of "shine" out, as people who don't start fights, and act responsibly.

And on no account should it be people who post lots. Quality not Quantity, etc.

On that note, i nominate myself ;D

I fail to see what difference whether someone wants to be a mod or not makes. I would just judge people on their operational and personal merits and to hell with anything else, which is AFAIK, what we do here.

If people request to be mods (rather than just want), it may mean that they desire power, and those who simply desire power are hardly trustworthy.

They don't HAVE to moderate, you know? They can keep up the same level of non-modality, and just be there to clean up when one of the regular ****head attentionseekers bomb the first page.

Granted, but with the appointment of a new moderator there is a disturbance.

I think its a bad idea because

a. We have enough moderators for a fairly small community
b. The person appointed would upset the equilibrium, perhaps through a lack of understanding, or bout of overeagerness
c. Anyone decent enough for a moderating position's posting style would be hampered, which if they are a decent poster, is naturally not desirable
