Re: Mm
That would be unprofessional
Right, obviously due to the size of the area I can't ask everyone, but I'll do some calling and stuff.
I know one thing the local MP never does.
Interact with us.
I've never ever met them, never had any kind of conversation with the bloke. Never even seen them anywhere.

Re: Mm
My MP interacts with us. Well technically, he did interact with us, but my mother told him she was a socialist and he left looking slightly confused. I don't think he'll be interacting with us again any time soon.

It seems that you haven't quite got into the whole "Member of Parliament" role yet. You're still talking about "representing the people", for a start. You also seem to be suggesting that the fact that an idea is silly is a reason not to do it.

I don't think so. I think you do in the US (well, be resident, not own property), but I don't recall it being the case over here.

Don't eat crisps, honey bun, they're bad for your teeth.
Besides, there's better things you should be spitting around the room than crisp detritus, alas, alas.

you dont have to live in the constituency to be MP.
you dont have to live in the ward to be a councillor, or own property, that would be rather right wing wouldnt it?

No need to sticky it. As long as your campaign proceeds unimpeeded, it will be near the top as a result of all the activity.

Re: MM
Hey,
Being as at the moment you'll only just get enough votes to retain your deposit.
I will ruin your party by paying for half-a-douzen mock candidates to stand, inorder to divert attension away from you, meaning you'll get less votes and not retain your deposit.
I will essentially kill your party before it's made it's first steps.
Unless you make me 'The minister incharge of restructuring'. (I'm planning to rid England of Leeds).

Re: MM
Now you're being silly.
I spoke to a guy today who works for the council in one of these community access schemes.
He basically said that the current way of communicating with local government doesn't work as it's too beaurocratic. What he said needs to happen is community meetings where people come and say whats bothering them and they are responded to there and then, instead of sitting through three hours of policy and paperwork etc.
What he also said he'd like to see is an actual evident result of work done about peoples complaints and issues, instead of Yes men who say they'll do something then nothing seems to be done. He said something visibly changing would restore peoples faith.

Which is more than can be said for most Members of Parliament.
(My MP in Cambridge, for instance, seems to think that voting in favour of top up fees will help her reelection chances. )

Regardless of whether they are a good thing or a bad thing, most students don't like them, and so, if a large part of your constituency consists of students, supporting them in Parliament probably isn't a particularly bright idea.
