Credit Card Question
The £ is very strong against the $ atm as such i am planning on investing in some american merchandise via the net using my credit card.
Now the question i have to ask is:
"When does the transaction normally take place on a cc when you are buying in a foreign currency (ie does it happen imediately, within 24 hours or is the exchange calculated at the end of the month)?"
I need to know incase the £ suddenly crashes against the $ and im left paying more than i originally planned on paying.
Also ... "Do cc companies charge an exchange commission fee and what is this likely to be (or where could i find it out)"?
Thanks

Re: Credit Card Question
They dont charge commission as such, but they do kinda chose the interest rate, which isnt quite as favourable as the given exchange rate on websites etc.
As to when it comes out, I assume its pretty similar to debit cards - ie not immediately but within 24 hours. Its not the end of the month.
Dont u have inet bankin? Then u can see how much they're chargin and when.

Re: Credit Card Question
I kno NatWest shows me what I've spent on my credit card as soon as it goes on it, not sure about others but I'm sure they're all pretty similar.

I'm buying books.
Books aren't really a consumerist item.
As such my conscience is clear.

Re: Credit Card Question
I would suggest going to the trouble of reading the terms and conditions that would have come with the card. On the assumption that you probably threw them out or cant find them, they are also probably viewable online as well. There should be a section in there regarding transactions in a foreign currency.

Re: Credit Card Question
My brother did the same on germany, he sold his euros and got hold of many dollars, but there where a lot of taxes that take place in this bussiness that make it a little bit hard to profit from it unless its like 10k E

Re: Credit Card Question
It'll cost you the exchange rate at the point of the money being taken out of your account, be it that very second, at the end of the working day, in 24 hours time, whatever.
