those aren't 'random'
they are clearly solutions to the equation
(x-5)(x-15)(x-25)(x-35)(x-45) = 0
obviously.

In a 'lottery' of sorts, these numbers are just as likely to come up as any others. Am I the winner?

At the LAN I went to last weekend we did IRC bingo ... everyone in the channel got 5 numbers and then there were numbers draw over the IRC channel. If you had a bingo one had to type "BINGO" in the channel and rush forward.
I didn't win anything tho.

That´s 5 random numbers.
Do they have to be different ones?

See, the problem is that once people see a certain number has been used already (37), by their definition of 'random' they can't use it again. If you just would have had people pm you their lists, and then posted them all at the end of your 'run,' you would have seen a much higher prevalence. (yes i know that that definition of 'random' is stoopid)

Sir! You forget yourself! And indeed me.
|
the first two 'can't' because they aren't between 1 and 50.
The third 'isn't' because it was chosen for specific properties.
And claiming that 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 is just as likely to occur as any other sequence is obvious to everyone. The point of this activity was to look at how people choose 'random' numbers, even though obviously we can't truly do it.
More to the point, the excessive occurance of 1,2,3,4,5 indicates there is some systematic error in the number choosing method, to the extent that it must not be random.
