Positive Reinforcement
I'm thinking of trying some "positive reinforcement" style learning with my pupils on Thursday, as they're quite a challenging group. I need to get my behaviour management skills up to scratch, for when I'm in London.
So what I was thinking, is allowing them to view a video clip/flash movie or two at the end of the lesson, as a reward if they work "well". If they don't, they don't get to relax at the end with them.
So I was wondering if you guys could thikn of any good ones I could use?
We've had a zillion links in here over time. They'd need to be suitable (so no swearing, no blood, no porn or anything like that) and I'd prefer it if they were downloadable. Plus a class of 13 or 14 year olds should be able to understand why they're funny.
Fancy helping me out and linking me up a bit? Thanks

Re: Positive Reinforcement
I've got (downloaded them onto my memory stick):
Dancing Roommate
Pet Star
Lip Syncing
They're all pretty basic and probably old (although I hadn't seen the parrot one before), but they'll be ok to tie a lesson off and give the kids a break.
I dunno if I'll use the roommate or the lip syncing ones, I intend to just get loads and pick the best.
The parrot one is pretty funny though, so I reckon I'll use that tomorrow if I get the "all-ok".
Anyway.
More links plz

Re: Positive Reinforcement
Can "not beating them to pulp at the end of the class" also be seen as "positive" reinforcement?
Just curious.

They made a video of it but i'm having trouble finding it. The link was posted on here at some point but that site no longer seems to be working.
I cant find the video of the British karate teacher that uses the line 'i want to see some windmilling in' .

At least when you fail you know it was due to the act of entertaining us, a worthy sacrifice. That cat link is brilliant
Any joy finding the windmilling bloke as I wouldn't mind seeing that again but couldn't find it either?

Re: Positive Reinforcement
As part of your positive reinforcement whenever you ask them a question and someone gets it wrong you should say "Okay, would somebody who isn't a complete retard like to have a go at answering the question?"

Re: Positive Reinforcement
Positive Behaviour Managament is one of the things that inspire me.
I recently got snet on a PBM course, and the head behaviour specialist for the city told me it was a waste of time and I could teach the class, so she told me not to turn up, and just gave me the certificate \o/
Find me on irc and I can help you out of u want.
