Alternative Domain Names
What do you guys think of websites that use alternative extentions like .biz or .tv or .cc. I'm thinking about using one. Should I just be more creative with my domain name or do you feel that anything not .com (.co.uk isn't appropriate for me) is just sleezy?

i personally think they look cheap and tacky, but that's just my opinion.

i much prefer .com/.co.uk/org/net etc.

I know it's silly right? But 'sleazy' is the word that popped into my head, I think there is negative baggage attached to alternative domain extentions which would not be good for a new business.

com is obviously best, but most of the good domainnames are taken - youre more likely to find a better available name if you go onto alternative TLDs. However, youd have to balance this out against the risk of people forgetting yoursite address. I often just remember the domain-name rather than .com/.org bit, which means I sometimes have to cycle through the .com/.net/.org extensions until I find the right one. If it was something obscure like .biz or .mo, I probably wouldnt find it.

edit: for instance, it took me ages to internalise the imageshack url as being imageshack.us rather than us.imageshack.com

If its a personal site (e.g. Im s|k and i have just been to Japan and it was great) i really cant see a crap extension like .biz being "sleazy". If its for any professional reason then use .org/.com/.net.
