Apparrently it has something to do with the british empire and the services done for it.
I think it's guranteed that any englishman who get's his face in the news so much shoving england up scotland's noses while doing it will get one.

a lot of people turn them down...
Only one player has received a knighthood whilst still playing... have a guess...
How many have received mbe/obe/cbe things whilst still playing?

Re: [Football] MBE, OBE or CBE, what will rooney get?
And then you get attention-seeking "people" like Benjamin Zefaniah (sp?) who feel the need to take up 3 days' worth of headlines doing so... (and drawing people like that Independent-writery woman) who suddenly appear to grow a concscience(how do you spell that word?) overnight, and from then until eternity mention the damn thing everytime they appear on Newsnight (which is quite often)).
Anyway, Sir Rooney has a strange ring to it...

I turned down my knighthood for a kids Happy Meal at MacDonalds instead - shorter queue time.
