God forbid I almost made a preacherman account
Cause I was sat back thinking about 95% of semi-serious generally discussive threads and how someone always thinks it's cool that they can quote something from a tv programme or cartoons that's blindingly relevant to the thread.
Then I thought, **** it I could do that with the bible all the time it still wouldn't add shit to the conversation.
Difference is at least it would be an obvious gimmick account and gimmicks get banned.
Food for thought.

Lately I've come to <3 you idimmu.
As utterly as initially repulsed to that idea I have been for quite a long time.

I could make a really sarcastic account who'd say something here about making a gimmick account but it would actually be about sunday but I wouldn't get worshipped and nod would say that I was a nerd.

Re: God forbid I almost made a preacherman account
Its unfortunate that "Mildly Amusing" gimmicks get rounded on the same as "Utterly Shite Gimmicks" by the vast mahority of posters, and thus get banned sooner rather than later.

Re: God forbid I almost made a preacherman account
By vast majority of posters you mean SS and JBOY right?
PS That might actually add something sunday. Usually most of those tv quotes are supposed to be humourous, and seeing as I find the bible downright hilarious it should work like a charm!

No
If i recall, the second a "Gimmick" account makes its first post, a majority of posters immediately call for its summary execution on the grounds of it being "Shit by default" because its a gimmick. Yes, we did have some overly-authoritarian mods who deleted gimmicks on sight, but i think its fair to say that the current batch of mods is distinctly more liberal (until 10:30-11:00 when theyre either really drunk or really tired, at which point you posts yer thread and you takes yer chances).

The difference is that when people quote the bible they are often trying to argue from authority. When someone quotes the Simpsons they are just trying to illustrate the point a bit more humoursly / lightly. Steven Pinker in "How the Mind Works" has quotes from Woody Allen and at least one Calvin & Hobbes strip for instance.
