Re: Support Planets
two known scanner tags have been contacted and asked as to their intentions for the rest of this round. Their choices are playing in their tag, or joining the tag that they were apparently scanning for, as per the rules.

What about a covert-ops tag? What if I started a tag which was basically relaxed about what we do and loads of people choose to go covert-ops and cov-op people they don't like?

Covert ops should be dumped.

That ignores the deeper problem that I could just set up a tag and ten of us attack a planet from alliance X each night.

Re: Support Planets
This whole scenario leads to the conclusion that anyone helping another player who is not in the same alliance could by definition (under the criterea above) be considered a "support" planet.
How does this square if 2 alliances (say xvx and subh) team up to take down Omen, Rock or 1up ? If either of the teamed up alliances were seen to gain a big advantage (possibly by luck than good judgement) would that then mean the other alliance is per se a Support organisation for the one on top? And would that result in mass closures etc...
Or if a Galaxy mate gives a scan to another player not in the same alliance is that acting as a support planet ?
The list is endless, and I think totally unworkable if every action is to be scrutinised to the nth degree.
Perhaps a solution as far as scanners go is to have a hard coded scan tree that once selected eliminates other area's of research.
For example only a by design scan planet can obtain JGP's but a regular player can get as far as newsies, and then go onto FA scans.

Re: Support Planets
Quite aside from the support planet discussion, I just think it is the single most irritating and pointless feature of the game from the perspective of a planet seriously trying to gain a top rank: Even if you make yourself immune to cov ops, you have sacrificed other parts of your game to gain that immunity. Being a cov opper is no way to gain a top rank, so I don't see the attraction if it for those who do play as a cov opper, other than having the ability to seriously irritate others. Maybe it's for those with sadistic tendancies.
But that opinion is from a personal player point of view, and not from an alliance tactical standpoint.

Cov oppers have their uses in removing Distorters and also the ability for a planet to build def, for example you destroy a planets Medium Factory he cant build FR and DE them u attack him with ships that he cant build def for despite the fact he has 4mill res saved.
Not a bad tactic,
