[football] Rooney Wins Award
From the BBC Website :
Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has won the 'Golden Boy' prize for the best young player in Europe.
The England forward received the prize from Italian newspaper Tuttosport after topping a journalists' poll to find the outstanding footballer under 21.
Rooney finished ahead of team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo, Fernando Torres, Arjen Robben and Obafemi Martins.
"As far as I am aware, this is the first international trophy I have won," said a delighted Rooney.
Ajax forward Rafael van der Vaart was last year's winner of an award Tuttosport hope will become regarded as the young player's equivalent of the European Footballer of the Year.
--------
What I dont understand is when he said "As far as I am aware, this is the first international trophy I have won". Did he win won without noticing? Another fine example of the Liverpool Education System

Re: [football]
Majority of football players aren't educated, few can talk properly in interviews and make sence.

Re: [football] Rooney Wins Award
So what, he's a football player, he earns shitloads of cash and he gets it for exercising his ****ing hobby. Who the hell cares what they say in the press, especially when it's about such little things as this. He rocks and I love to see him in action with the ball.

Did you even watch Euro 2004?
Do you come from Manchester?
Do you realise you made a spelling/grammatical mistake in the sentance dissing Rooney's poor English?
Do Liverpool have an education system?

Re: [football] Rooney Wins Award
Arjen was injured, if he wasn't he'd of won it, Rooney was great at Euro 04 which prolly bagged it for him, Ronaldo has nice touches and amazes at times but not a winner, Martins is amazing but given inter's track record I wouldn't be surprised if he's on 200 different Performance enhancing 'supplements'.
That said, Cesc Fabregas will and should win it next year, and the fact that Reyes wasn't even in the top 5 was blasphemy (and I'm not a particular fan of any english side).

We call it that, whether that's an accurate description of it is open to debate.

Re: [football] Rooney Wins Award
I'm not following. Is it only performance in european matches that counts then? If so why did the BBC talk about his domestic goalscoring record?

Re: [football] Rooney Wins Award
Basically whoever picks the European player of the year tends to have less of a clue than whoever picks the FIFA world player of the year. I dont know why but it just seems to be that way.

Re: [football] Rooney Wins Award
It's an award made by the Ballon D'or (a French football magazine) and is voted upon by European football journos.

Wel, whenever I try that tactic I fail all my essays, become sickeningly gaunt and start to stick to the sofa - so Owen is obviously omnipotent, or something.
