World of Warcraft

OK it seems a few of the posters here are genuinely into World of Warcraft so I thought I'd start a thread on it.

First off how many of you euro's have jumped onto the NA servers straight away instead of waiting for the EU release?

How many of you have played the beta's and what have been your lasting impressions so far?

What faction/race are you loyal too?

I'm a Horde Orc Warrior lvl 43 atm and enjoying it incredibly on the pvp servers. Blizzard have truly left the 'contested' zones as that 'contested', people will complain about hey we can't quest in these area's cause the alliance are camping such and such an npc... it's in contested area and some american's seem to be unable to grasp this, in fact it only seems to be canadian/european parties competent enough to clear out massive camps in these contested area's to give their faction the edge in questing there.

There has been an issue with a speed hack with the game, this involves abusing the trust the servers put in the client when the servers are prone to lag... basically the hack alters the client to constantly be desynchronized with the servers and keep giving it false readings for where it should be, thus the players look like they are jumping all over the screen... very annoying in pvp but blizzard have stamped out a lot of users who have abused this, unfortunately the only way to pick this up is observing accounts that chronically do this as a way of questing quicker to level quicker by getting from point A to point B faster, or when someone records a video of someone doing this, me and a lvl 41 warlock were pk'ing two alliance lvl 48 priest and a lvl 46 mage (who should of owned us) called Angelhmy and Angelboss (hmmmm) and after wiping them for the third time, they started doing this 'glitching' thing to get away from us lol.

The AH(Auction House) market is MASSIVELY different from open beta for prices(Much much more expensive) and they had to take out most of the fishing from high level area's cause someone managed to code a macro that enabled fishing botting which is fustrating but stops crazy inflation on trade goods, other than that the economy is good. Almost everyone in the whole game has a character with mining just as a heads up so it get's annoying to have cleared a mob out around an ore just to watch someone run in and take it, though generally most people are good natured, there's maybe only 1% to 2% tops of quests still bugged.

For those starting on the european servers, you may get a better launch cause of problems they have identified already since the full retail launch here, though I'd be extremely disappointed if those bugs have carried over. Be careful choosing your server, if it's high population already there's a good chance you'll get stuck in queue's to log onto that server for the first week as everyone jams up the starting area's...

Anyway I'm going to get back to playing, in a household of 6, 3 guys 3 girls, we all play WoW now, sad perhaps but it's really that fun, everyone finds their own pace to play at and what they can enjoy.

Oh and Alliance still outnumber Horde 2 to 1 on most servers but we still hand the zerg rushing alliance their asses frequently.

p.s. For those interested in the collectors Edition, my quick opinion, soundtrack is nothing special, Cloth Map is disappointing, the unique pets are insanely cute, The Art Book is amazing if you appreciate art and makes a great coffee table book but I've heard they are releasing the book seperate in the rush up to xmas, the guest pass well... it's something, but basically you aren't missing a helluva lot I think if you aren't interested in the Art Book and the very classy looking box the whole package comes in, oh and having a DVD version of the game and the game on the 4 cd's helps too, means I have a back up should I scratch one :P

Re: World of Warcraft

Well my brother plays it but I didn't even think about looking at it let alone play it. GTA:SA, NFSU2 and FM2005 is taking my schedule a lot since I don't attend to uni this year.

Waiting for the EU release as well. I really enjoyed the game the little time I was in the US Beta. Not sure if I will have enough time to play but ordering it for sure.

i played EQ for a week or so, and got up to level 4 or so before i quit.
i played wow for a few hours last night, and made 7th. and i don't have a clue what i'm doing.

does it keep on going this fast?

Re: World of Warcraft

I've been playing it on and off, mainly because Legion is so heavily involved.

I remember the initial excitement, our order with ebgames falling through at the last second and a single dedicated member rushing to the store to buy 64 copies at midnight. I remember getting my key, installing the game, and starting afresh having only played open beta for a while to get the hang of it?

Is WoW worth it? Without a doubt, its the truly groundbreaking MMORPG of our time, it takes the good ideas from everywhere else and throws them into one huge melting pot. I'm only a level 39 rogue, not been playing it as much as I guess I would like due to work.

I seem to have hit a wall now though, it justs seems to be 'Oh look, more questing so I can get to level 60' so I'm taking a break to see if I get my apetite back.

EU beta has been running for a while, dude.

And Blizzard doesn't care about Europe so much, that they've hired an entirely European staff for us, as well as have specific German, French and EU-English servers

The open beta hasn't. I don't care enough to try and get into the closed beta.

No it's slowed a lot now, a lot of the mobs that are non instance dungeon at my level are elite now and it takes some concerted effort to solo them, though the main thing I like about WoW is that it really isn't how fast you get to 60 that dictates how good a player you are or will be.

The proof in the pudding is how you manage the instances where the real pvp gear is at and the real epic content is at, you'll need great parties for them, being ahead of the game doesn't give you an advantage cause you have to wait on everyone to catch up before you can do some of the coolest content, so there's nothing to be truly gained long term by grinding mobs for ages and ages.

That and being able to make alts is fun, I've got an orc hunter building now, I like a little variety, having to commit to one class for months to attain level cap I think is a factor that actually bores gamers somewhat, being able to switch between chars and have fun is the main thing in my book.

Oh, 50 characters maximum over all servers, 10 characters maximum on any particular server, PvP servers have one faction only rules, which means if you make a horde character on a certain pvp server you can't also make alliance characters on it (to stop people cheating per say or causing grief).

My computer wouldn't be able to run it, which really pisses me off.

I'm hoping to get a new one in February sometime, so I'm hoping WoW won't be out before then.

which is great, although they couldn't manage to let people play on the server they actually want to be on. customer care++

also, they have regionalisation 'to improve the player experience' and yet expect me to play in euros. i'd much rather have had the american release and paid the (lower) dollar price.

i'd put money on them having all of the regional servers in france, and i wouldn't be shocked if i ping better to the us ones than the eu ones

Hi Rids, I see the 40-50 man raid on Tarren Mill is going well, Run Closish to the town where there is all of 10-12 horde players, then run away again :P

Come and actually kill something in the town ffs.... stop doing this whole chicken shit thing, you know when they finally implement the honour system you'll only get honour from killing big name NPC's in the middle of cities right?

Unfortunately my PC is coping with this raid like a cheap cheap bitch, I got everything turned down but I'm lucky if I see the people before I'm spammed with 50 DoT's atm.

Really need to get that ATI radeon, that said you fell quite easily even with 40-50 peeps backing you up :P I'm stuck out on my own atm, there's literally about 8 horde there to counter you, the rest are trying to quest atm lol.

[edit] I run solo into Southshore tanking 8 human npc guards so I can smack Gren one lol, then I run in and kill your barkeep and the liutenant npc, 2 more than you guys killed :P

Re: World of Warcraft

To be fair, that was the only time that I died in 2 hours of raiding

****ing typical it had to be infront of you aswell. Yeah that was the tail end of the raid when you came in, we called it off pretty much soon after. It was ok for a while though.

Wasnt 40 man strong when we ran into you, we started off with 40, had a few drop out along the way, world bug, bed, food, the usual, think it was a 30 strong legion team when you ran into us, and then a tonne of tag-alongs from Southshore.

Killing stuff in town is not easy, not sure what level though Deathguards are, but they're a royal pain in the ass, kite more than 3 at a time and things generally become quite hard work.

We did have some ace running battles along the way, for a while there seemed to around 20+ engaged in fighting us, and I got to gank a few DIV, including some of the higher level ones (no Oblivion though ) but our attempt to draw them into a real fight didnt materialise, still we'll be back and looking for more another time.

Re: World of Warcraft

Div are total wankers... they pretty much Roll on EVERYTHING insisting they need it and it can be guranteed you'll see it in the AH a couple hours later(as such I refuse to party with em, that said they pretty much have grinded all their levels and don't seem that hot, definately nothing special from the few I partied with compared to other guilds).

Night Watch are a guild that's come over from Ragnarok but they are total casual players with good banter, The Cult of Nima Nima are very good players, sadly I think the biggest guild on the horde side is called PLAYERS VS ENVIROMENT...

p.s. yah I got there late, when I heard of the attack I was busy trying to fix up my roomies accounts tradeskill wise, I'm a harvester and they bleed me of all my goods for nowt but I luv em so it's all in the name of fun, you kept together really well and healed well, it was just disappointing you guys didn't make a run of it into the town, you definately had at the time I was there nothing much stopping you but npc's after me and the remnants of the stick around horde.

Re: World of Warcraft

Broken url, at least for me Rids, as far as organization goes though, when you have classes actually doing their jobs in pvp (support classes supporting instead of trying to kill etc) then you are somewhat down the road to organised :P

Ai, the link has died.

Its quite a funny video, shows the best moments from the raid the other night. The chat is hilarious though 'DONT CROSS THE ROAD' - suddenly the whole team surges accross the road, stuff like that.

Re: World of Warcraft

Sunday, quick question for you.

Started a warrior alt, basically getting a bit bored with running SM 3 times a day to level the rogue so I thought I'd go for a bit of variety. Now, it seems that the standard Warrior is simply a non-damage-dealing tank there to take a smack in instances, not my style.

I want to do something a bit different, I still want to be able to tank, so wear plate, etc, however I'd like to be more of a secondary tank capable of dealing damage. I cant find any good builds for this on retard-central (blizzard forums) - since you're a reasonably high level warrior, wondering if you could give us some input?

Cheers

I'm a DPS secondary warrior tank, unfortunately it means we can't do shit with regards to stopping magic casters unless you want to build macro's for shield and 1h switching and stance switching (which pisses me right off) if you wanna stop casters but I'll outline my build which involves a respec at 40.

As DPS you'll need to rely on Agility and Critical, Strength is no good unless you are using a shield, so my advise is Stamina/Agility > Strength when it comes to buffs on items. You prolly want to shove talents in the following.

5 cruelty
5 parry
3 rend
2 charge
3 deepwounds
2 overpower (godly vs rogues who use evasion lol)
2 imrpoved crit damage talent at the end of the rend tree
5 2h damage
5 Axe

Yes this will mean using Axe as an Alliance warrior when none of you have a racial trait for it.

You'll want to build that way till you get to 3 axe mastery.... then you'll hit 40, then you'll have 31 talent points to spend, at which point you respec to this

5 Parry
3 Rend
2 Charge
3 Deepwounds
2 Overpower
2 Improved Crit damage talent at the end of the rend tree
5 2h Damage
5 Axe damage
2 Hamstring
1 Sweeping Strikes
1 Mortal Strike

Mortal Strike is the god of all things holy vs Caster npc's and Caster Players... it can crit... it does 203% damage of weapon + 47% reduction of all healing buffs on the character hit for 10 seconds with a 6 second cooldown for 30 rage. Once you have this baby you are laughing, Sweeping Strikes is god because it also counts for Mortal Strike/Overpower, so if one mob dodges you, you can overpower both with Sweeping Strikes or Mortal Strike both with sweeping strikes for the cost of one skill. Only Problem with Sweeping Strikes is making sure you let the mage know only to use poly in 3 pulls when you are using it and to usually poly the caster or the one you aren't hitting.

Skill wise, Battle Stance all the way, don't waste your time investing in skills on the other stances, at most buy up your shield bash on defensive stance should you really need to start switching stances and bashing, but it shouldn't be happening.

Oh and the greatest faux pas most starting warriors ever make, is using Heroic Strike, it effectively doubles/triples your miss rate, leading to all that bishing you see on the forums. I think I can see how it does it but I dearly assume I'm wrong because it's rather noob coding if that's why, that all said there's no good reason for using Heroic Strike.

Your bread and butter of levelling your warrior is just to keep reapplying Rend/Demoralizing Shout/Battle Shout/Thunder Clap in that order when you have the rage too while grinding mobs. When instancing in Parties, Demo Shout first as that creates threat on all mobs towards you (challenging Shout in emergencies at high levels, Mocking Blow is best saved for bosses).

Can I highly reccomend getting Cooking up high as the stat buffs from well fed are invaluable, First aid as well, When in pvp situations 1v1 or 2v1 nothing is a life saver as stopping attack, hitting Intimidating shout which will fear one and stun the other and then running a good 20 yards while using a silk bandage and then returning to the fight fully healed. Avoid using intidmidating shout in mobby area's as it can create massive pulls. Warriors tend to forget Thunder Clap slows down the attack speed of other mobs/players by 10% which is useful when mobbed. Learn Throwing Skill, it's invaluable for pulling mobs when charging in would get you killed.

Anyway when you've respecced after 40 you can start putting points back into cruelty and then work up Anticipation then other talents in the defense tree for pvp'ing purposes, I highly reccomend getting the 15% resistance to stun/charm/fear and the Shield Block and the 10% increase to defence.

Other tips of note are, Hunters who like to kite you with concuss shots etc will assume they can outdamage you from range, they can't if you have a nice shield and you start throwing axes at them, hunters have pathetic damage reduction, you have excellent damage reduction with shields (not to mention blocking), I'm sure you know when hunters whack on cheetah aspect to flee, stop and throw a weapon to instantly daze him and mow him down.

Mortal Strike is invaluable vs casters in pvp, It's indepedant of your regular attacks so it's all too easy to wipe out some classes in 5 seconds, you can land a regular crit hit (of say 480) and simultaneously land a crit hit (of say 941 my best so far) at the same time onto a caster class, it's devastating to say the least, especially if you have em rended, cause Deep wounds will mean they'll be taking 46 dmg per 3 secs and 19 dmg per 3 secs from rend over the next 30 seconds of combat.... no bandages for them!

Warriors get owned by fear unfortunately so warlocks can be a pain in the ass, the only advice against it, is if you know in advance, to throw on two shadow resist rings and hope for the best.

Hamstring is invaluable in pvp, it's the first thing I land in combat,, with the two talent points in it, it'll be your bestest friend.

Enchants you'll want are, 25 Absorption on Chest, +3 Agi on Cloak (Or +50 AC if you know no enchanters with that), +5 Stamina on bracers, +3 agi on boots, +4 dmg (enchanters are told it's +5 by description) on weapon, +5 agility on gloves (another high level enchant, only some will have it), I tend to carry Swiftness potions with me for emergencies and I've gotta lot of love for healing pots too, If you are partied with a warlock don't forget to ask for a healthstone, you can use them and a heal pot at the same time which is godly when you have too many adds or you are stuck in a massive pvp war.

Your best drops(lvl 35-40) will come from farming Herod in SM and grabbing the Aegis of the Scarlet Commander off of that paladin. Some of your best warrior drops around lvl 30-35 will come from Razorfen Kraul. Above lvl 40, just scout AH for plate imo, most smithed plate isn't that hot at all compared to plate drops, until you can get a nice thorium set.

For professions, I took Mining/Skinning, Great money maker, Less time consumning, good to have a supply of the best stones to get them turned into sharpening stones, that and warriors tend to be privy to the most free inventory space.

If I can think of anything more I'll add it.

Forgot to add, at lvl 20 Warriors get the lesser known god called Retaliation, this has a 30 minute cooldown timer on it, it gives for 15 seconds perfect counter attacking rate, every hit landed on you by any mob IN FRONT of you shall be automatically countered (with a chance to crit), most warriors use it too sparingly, I use it when I get into a) named elite fights or b) massive pulls I can't handle, I dun use it in pvp cause it's a waste too imo. I've handled a pull of 6 = levelled mobs with one silver elite while pvm'ing with Retal solo. Against bosses, if you hit mocking blow after you hit retal (so as to gurantee his threat on you, use challenging shout after as mocking blow is good for only 6 seconds) you can decimate a boss and his adds in seconds.

My favourite showboat trick atm is joining noob parties at Ragefire Chasm (lvl 13-16 elite instnace) gathering about 40 troggs on me, hitting retal and sweeping strikes and spamming the mortal strike key when I have the rage and showing them a warrior taking down 40 elite mobs in 15 seconds lol.

Paladin is as dull as all ****, they are pretty much priests that use melee weapons instead of spells to solo, in parties they are pure support really... they can't hold aggro as well as other classes and are best used for their buffs and heals.

They are the most irritating class to pvp as horde though solo cause of this 3 lives bullshit they can pull on most classes, they win the fight basically if they can drag it out the full 12 rounds sorta thing...

I'm drinking some punch after a rather large (early) xmas dinner in which I was cleaning up after the ladies so graciously made the food.

No life indeed, we are currently inventing colours for U atm, hence why I'm on the internet, researching lol.

(I'm lvl 46, there are a lot of people who have been level 60 now for almost a week, lvl 60 being the cap).
