Hello Dear Brits!
If I happened to find myself in London, are there cheap ways to get to Scotland?
In Norway, sweaty busses filled with old men are cheap, while trains are expensive. Is that true in the UK as well?
Are there any special buscompanies?
Are there any point in flying?
Thanks.

Re: Hello Dear Brits!
The trains here are ****ing extortionate. Best to get a national express coach or some such thing.

flying is cheaper than the train unless you book in advance.
if you booked a train say 2 months in advance it might be non-extortionate
megabus.com does cheap bus travel between major uk cities though.

Re: Hello Dear Brits!
flying is cheaper and quicker.
Coaches aren't too bad but would take at least 7 hours to get to Edinburgh.
Trains are quite expensive but would be quicker than a coach.

Re: Hello Dear Brits!
On this journey, I only care about the money. I'm going to be broke as hell, and a uncomfy busride is acceptabale if I can get food the next day
What type of airlines have cheap trips?
And, how long does it take to get from Stanford to central London?
Thanks for all your help fellas!

They had a return to glasgow the other day for £39 all in. The flight is less than 1 hour and from Glasgow its just 45 minutes drive to loch lomond, which is lovely.

Nobody has pointed out the fact that if you take a train then you'll also probably die.

Scotland is a place of pilgrimage for GD people, Belgy. They go to worship at the site of Nodrog's birth and all that.

Re: Hello Dear Brits!
I would fly as coaches are plain slow and you don't get cheap train fares out of London to places like Edinburgh.

Re: Hello Dear Brits!
Flights are as expensive if not cheaper (if booked far enough in advance) than trains, and about as quick (take into account faffing around getting to and from airports and waiting round and you're looking at 3ish hours from start to finish by plane, 4.5-5ish by train).
Megabus is cheap but I can think of a better way of spending half of a day of my life.

Do you mean Stanstead (as in Stanstead Airport)?
If so then about 45 minutes by train I think, and 1hr 15mins by coach/bus.

Tow persons to London, including all taxes, at the time I want to go and go home again, totals at 1400kr-ish. One person, to Scotland, in the same period, totals like 1300kr-ish.
Besides, I want to see a bit of the UK, so I'm thinking of going back again to London after my trip up to the highlands, and stay for a few days. Or maybe Manchester. Anyways, the prices are why!

Re: Hello Dear Brits!
What I was thinking, was going over on the sometime in the start of July, (To Scotland) and returning to London sometime the next week. Then, probably going home on the 20, that is, if there is any point in being in London. If not, then probably going back to London on maybe the 12, and return home at once. I guess I have to plan soon, but the money is the main issue, and it's going to be my only vacation this summer (Exept small trips), so I want to make as much of it as possible.
If you want to buy me a beer, I'm game! (That "offer" applies to all )
By flying to London and then flying to Edinburgh, I can save almost a 1000kr then by directly flying from Oslo to Edinburgh. That's pretty strange!
As I just found out that the power-elite of the world is going to lock down Scotland in the start of July, I think I just might reconsider the time!
