I tire of these 30 second waits to load f'in web pages and pings of 900+* .

is there like an idiots guide to broadband in the uk or something? im moving into my house in manchester in a coupla weeks and i want internet. but i dont really want it to be super gay slow, but they dont got cable round that way (i like ntl) so it will hjave to be thru the phonelines. also it will probably have to be shared connection with some of my other housemates. so, i need to know what my options are etc.
