Christmas Awards of the RP Boards
You guessed it, without warning the RP Awards are back once again to deal out this Christmas' Awards of the RP Boards! A quick reminder to all that the awards will be read out on Christmas Eve, no earlier, no later. So, without further ado, let us begin.
Rules:
There are a few rules to this thread, which are simple and straight forward to understand and should be addeared to at all times when posting here. - Vote for as many or as little awards as you please, you do not have to post on them all
- Please keep general conversation and/or roleplaying in this thread at a minimal, it distrupts counting
- You may NOT vote yourself, your threads or your creation. Failure to comply will result in all your votes being void
- You may post your votes here or post them to my PM box if you prefer secrecy
- Please vote for up to only 3 people/threads/creations in any of the awards
- Vote's left with Vote Here do not belong to anyone, even if they are called 'Vote Here'
- You can abbreviate names and threads if you please
- No getting in a huff or a puff or a blow your house down if you are not voted enough to get an award
- No editing votes, as votes are counted daily according to the new posts, so changing them will not make a difference in the final vote, as the first votes you place will be the ones that are counted.
So, with the rules out of the way, let us begin this year's Christmas Awards of the RP Boards!

I know I missed a lot of the old awards out, mainly because we do not see any academies or arenas around these days so it was pointless adding them in.
There is also a hidden award which shall be given at the end of this year's ceremony and will be done using a fine selection of judges, a good selection of roleplayers chosen and then voted on. This secret award is to do with this thread and not the Roleplaying Forums!
You now know the rules, the awards set for the last of this year...

Re: Christmas Awards of the RP Boards
I think that this year I'm going for secrecy. That way, it'll hopefully remain a little secret as to who will win until christmas. Expect my votes in your little box of pms sometime next week, mister AcidK.

Not a bad idea, if everyone votes in secret then AK can put up a finally tally of who voted for who for what during the 'ceremony'.
With names; just so we know where the 15,000 votes for him came from

I am actually very honest about the voting system, Mr. Richpur. I count and place according to the votes given.

You're telling me that you have had only 4 (not including yourself) people to vote?? That's just sad. Shame on everyone that hasn't voted yet.
Get on voting people! Please don't make me cry and weep without end for a week.

Re: Christmas Awards of the RP Boards
I personally find the awards thread pointless. There needs to be some more guideline as to how far back the voting should cover. Since this is the xmas awards have the thread awards limited to since the last vote so newbies can have a better chance to vote.. Then have a separate vote for best of all time. Half the people don't even know the threads that get the most votes or the RPers that receive the votes. Others don't look at enough threads to have educated votes. mrmao's comment proves that as no one seems to realize he is a newbie and a quite good one at that.
I do have to thank acidk for removing some of the categories as they had become obsilite like best assasin and such. All i can think to make this better is have choices or something. I know it will take a lot more time though but at least ppl will realize what sci fi, combat, fantasy, etc threads have been done in at least the last year.

Re: Christmas Awards of the RP Boards
all votes other than the 'best new memmer/newbie' award can date back to when the RP Boards first opened. There is no limit on how far they go back, for example I could vote the OOC as a good relaxation thread.

Re: Christmas Awards of the RP Boards
I think that what dragonsjem is getting to, is that there should be a limit to that very system. As there are votes for threads that a lot of the newer people or even those who have been here for three odd years dont know anything about or have any idea on some of the people or objects and threads mentioned.
Though I would have to agree with this myself right now the awards are mostly become a lament or remembrance to past threads, rather it should be the reverse and a chance for some newer threads to gain recognition. So should be limited to threads created in the past year for example rather than all the years the baord has been around.

Re: Christmas Awards of the RP Boards
That is what i was getting at. Just add a new section for Best Overall threads and make the other limited to the year or something (like most awards)

Re: Christmas Awards of the RP Boards
Well, if the majority of people agree with the sentiment expressed here by the two of you, then naturally enough they'll vote for the new threads rather than the old ones. Democracy at its finest. Irregardless, we do still have the Best Newcomer Award, however, that said, I'm all for bringing back the "Best New Thread" Award as well. That did tend to go to new threads made by already-established DMs, though.
I myself probably won't be voting this time round as there probably aren't enough threads for the whole thing to be worthwhile as an accolade to the greatest.

Re: Christmas Awards of the RP Boards
If a lot of the oldies vote for older threads than many follow suit. But the same older threads always win. Many are the ones i've never heard of in more than name after almost 3 years on here. I know I never voted in my earlier years cause all I saw were votes for threads before my time and I didn't feel my vote would even be acknowledged. And to back that idea up I saw a vote for Nomani's thread at the beginning yet at the tally it was never recorded, and other threads that got 1 vote were there.
As Darkling said, these awards have become more of a walk down memory lane than an acknoledgement of anyone TRYING to create a new thread idea. Yes i know many of the ideas have already been done, but for us RPers who joined in the last few years, it's new.

Re: Christmas Awards of the RP Boards
Inspectre or other people I talk to about threadmaking will be the first to tell you that I value originality of a thread's concept as much as anything. If I see a new thread that I am genuinely impressed by - to the extent that I believe it to be more deserving of my vote than previous threads on the forums, I will vote for it.
I guess we could get all the thread creators to review and reccomend ammendments to the current thread-related awards there (with AcidK's permission, of course). Alternatively we could simply let people who are going to vote decide, as I'm inclined to do. Of course, at the end of the day, these are run and created by AK and it's ultimately his desicion what to do with them, so he could disregard all of this and stuff.
Not that I really consider any of this too important or anything.

Re: Christmas Awards of the RP Boards
The awards are, and always have been, just a load of fun and adds a bit of extra fun in creating original and good threads/characters. That was the initial intention when I first opened the awards as well as it being a out-of-the-ordinary awarding ceremony.
The 'Best New Thread' and 'Best New DM' Awards have, since then, been taken out due to there being a lot of arguments saying how old a thread has to be to be 'old' or 'new' and, therefore, decided to have a no-limitation on the ages of what is being awarded unless specified (ie, best newcomer).
Furthurmore, the rules that each awards and the awards being used for each awards stays like that until the awards has ended. There may be an addition to a vital rule, maybe, but none other than those will be added or taken away. So, with this bearing in mind, the 'no limitation' unwritten rule stays until next awards if I decided, that is, to place them in for the next one (most possibly Summer anyways).
So, for an outro to my little rant/statements, the Awards Ceremony may be pointless. Then again, so are a very large number of threads in this very forum. There does not need to BE a point, it is just something that was thought up a long time ago and carried on year after year, twice at least. All I can say is suffer, because it has become a small tradition of mine to do this every december and during the summer.

isn't the Pandora AI Heiro's?
I distinctly remember No Dachi as the Red Sky At Dawn

I think my award has to be awarded posthumously though David, so if you could turn up to collect it I'd be grateful

Re: Christmas Awards of the RP Boards
I would be sad for getting no votes, if I had been active for the last year and/or had ever got any before I'm just happy to be in a siggy or two once in a while to remind newbies that I was here opnce upon a time...

Re: Christmas Awards of the RP Boards
No I meant literally how is it going to be able to collect it's award at the award ceremony??? It can't even make a speech, it's too lower a spec to be able to run a voice synthesiser properly.

Re: Christmas Awards of the RP Boards
Of course it would be lively; the award presenter leans forward to shake hands with the 286, and just as they take hold they find themselves congratulating an explosion.

I fail to see that there is any difficulty in shaking hands with something that doesn't technically possess those precise appendages.

Re: Christmas Awards of the RP Boards
You know you don't go arguing with a pool table table unless you have to...
anything that gets to pot it's balls that often should be respected and anything that can take that much abuse to it's balls without crying should be feared...
[EDIT] I just re-read this and realised something... this has to be the only place on earth where you can argue with a pool table... whilst sober...
