compared to munich? oh, please, they talk strange, they drink strange beer (if it is beer at all) and the country is run by some ultra-right-wing nut, how could you like that place?

considering i dont speak german, bavarian accents and the subtle language differences dont affect me. As for beer, you don't have to drink their beer.
Bavaria seems to be run by right-wing nuts through tradition rather than choice. Correct me if im wrong but havent the Christian Democratic/Social union ruled over Bavaria for around 200 years now (im guessing over a pub convo)? Even then, every time I go to Munich it seems to be much more open, and it feels like you can enjoy more freedoms than you could in say Britain. Our pm is a right-winged nut job, operating under a traditionally centre/centre-left party, and yet even though he is a nutjob looney (and as much as I dislike England), thankfully its population leans towards the left. Can’t always judge a place by its leader (there are exceptions though )

It was run by left-wing nuts for a short time immediately after WW1, under the infamous Räterepublik. Which rather set the stamp on Bavaria being the most right-wing part of Germany.

Uninteruptedley since 1957, to be precise.

It could be a riding thing(as in group)
As in that most places you'll visit in the area or talk to people in the area are all left leaning, but the political system includes lots of outlying area's which are all extremely right perhaps?

Re: im back!
I AM SAYING, THAT PERHAPS THE MORE VISITED PARTS OF BAVARIA WHERE YOU INTERACT WITH PEOPLE ARE MORE LEFT INCLINED BUT THE LESS VISITED PARTS ARE EXTREMELY RIGHT AND PERHAPS OUTNUMBER THE LEFT.
Think america and how the republicans got in.
I'm suggestion that proportional representation is what is needed in bavaria perhaps instead of their current system which is obviously not proportional.
I mean what you just dismissed his remark with would be also applicable to america in that sense... and I'm sure that would not even be plausible.

We're not talking about Bavaria, you inattentive moron, we're talking about Britain, and it's essential political character.

Re: im back!
Britain is the same tbh, with proportional representation of voting on a national scale rather than all these retarded council drawn up area's that are sometimes deliberately imbalanced so that more seats go to some political party etc, we'd see a lot more liberal democrats and labour/conservative alternative politicians in goverment?

Re: im back!
well... the british population is largely pretty left-leaning actually. or at least, would be if political comprehension was greater.

Re: im back!
they use a proportinal system (we use that everywhere here), the right wing nuts still got more than 60%. (if you want to talk about the us just say so )
edit: although i started the whole thing, that whole left and right stuff doesnt make any sence. a society cant be leaning left or right, because the center is in the middle. a group of people or a party can be left or right of the center, but not the whole country, in that case the center is just at another place.

Again, what is this based on? I'm prepared for a good argument here, but none seems to be forthcoming. Most of the obvious measures, i.e, opinion polls and past political history point the opposite way.

Re: im back!
Tell you what MM.
Get all the individual vote total's for all councils for each party.
Add up ALL the votes and divide this number by the total seats available in the houses of parliament or whatever it's called.
Now Add up all the votes for each party, now appropriate seats by votes gained.
See if the amount of seats for left leaning political parties total more now than what it currently does.

OK, well what do you mean by left wing?
I haven't studied opinion polls in a long time, but when I was forced to look at them during my A-Levels / Undergrad I seem to remember a majority of the British population supporting :
1. Public ownership of the railways (and some other now privatised industries)
2. Massive support for the NHS (and other vaguely "socialist" measures)
3. Strong support for progressive taxation (or other redistributive measures)
4. Strong support for trade unions
5. Belief there was a class struggle going on.
Of course, this is where we're all going to get into a tedious debate as to what 'left wing' means.
I would say that leaving that aside for a moment, the British public are certainly more economically "socialist" than their cousins in the United States (but that's not saying much). They also seem a lot more socially progressive than their European neighbours - in some areas. Britain has one of the highest rates of mixed marriages, and there is more tolerance of homosexuals than compared to some. We're all less religious than other parts of Europe. Finally, I'd say that although we're not so free-speech obsessed as the United States, we're certainly ahead of Germany and France in that regard.
Of course, we're also more nationalistic (in terms of anti-integration), probably have higher support for the death penalty and are probably more economically right-wing than some European nations.
