Things to bring to uni
with a fair few of our forums (myself included) headed off for the first year in uni before long, I was wondering if those of you who've done all this before knew of anything useful that one is likely not to think of before leaving.

nice rugs, booze (of all kinds), books, glasses, a range of casual to formal clothing, nice rugs, a computer, pens, a stereo, nice rugs, prints or paintings for the walls, cds but above all booze and nice rugs.

Re: Things to bring to uni
A tin opener and a decent set of cooking knives served me very well. But above all, I'd value open-mindedness and a decent sense of humour.

TV? And get some stuff on the walls and some flowers that doesn't need much water in the windows and you'll get it 'cozy'

Re: Things to bring to uni
a duvet, and I can't stress this enough. Most halls will only fgive you crappy sheets that will itch, so a nice duvet (with at least 3 sets of covers) from home is a very good idea.
I'm sure there was a thread about exactly this subject this time last year though... (not criticising, but might be worth searching for that and see what the OP thinks now of the replies then...)

You must eat food to survive. Climb buildings and punch open windows to find food.

I learned that one years ago through use of public toilets in camp sites.
Also: fully catered so food isn't a problem.

Lights are always good. Small ones.
Mos tuni rooms have nasty florescent light so get a couple of table lamps with 40W bulbs so it can create a nice atmosphere in for chilling

Take a bottle of popular spirit with you or an 1/8 of buddah. Ideal for breaking the ice with the other students who share the kitchen with you, etc...
Oh yeh, take your CD's and football boots, tennis racket, snooker cue etc...

hehehehe no.
Unless you are one of these really skinny people who can survive on half a chocolate bar a day OR you are one of these rich bastards that can afford to eat out ever time they feel peckish you will need to be able to make yourself some food easily. You don't need to bring a whole kitchen, just enough to make sandwiches/toast/pasta/noodle or whatever you like when you are hungry and its between meals or late at night.
I also advise you to steal some stationary from home. Hole punch, seleotape, stapler, pens etc. This is of course if you intend on doing work of course.

Didn't it have a timer? Did the building turn radioactive or the chicken come back to life, grow a hundred times its normal size and run rampant across downtown Tokyo?

Use masking tape. It doesn't mark the walls and is strong enough to hold things up.
Take some mugs for endless tea and coffee. Make friends by offering them a cuppa.
People (girls) seemed to be attracted to the lava lamp in my room so i'd advise one of them too.
a good selection of music and films is also a good way to make friends.

When you buy sheets, etc. buy nice ones, not just the cheapest ones you can find. You'll be grateful for it later.

Why don't you take the sheets from the house you'll are living in now? They won't be needed there, and they will be thinner and therefore dry more quickly.
