The Logbook - Back for Round 17
Yes, the logbook will be back for Round 17.
This round we'll see it improved quite a bit, with added assistance from the kind men at the pa wiki
Obviously, it's far too early to put in any kind of serious entry as yet, probably the weekend is the best time.

Universe as at PT168 - 1 week gone - thanks to Sandman for his stats.
Well round 17 of Planetarion has got underway and new alliance Omen have hit the ground running, with an average 10% bigger than any of their rivals at this stage and therefore are the alliance to beat at this stage. Insomnia look to be back in business with a strong start, obviously the question in everyone's minds is whether it can last another 7 weeks. ND have been solid in 3rd although I think they'd want to be out of the blocks much quicker than they are at the moment.
Angels are tailing hard in 4th, while HR have had a fantastic start in my book, maybe they can recapture the fighting spirit of the HR that finished 4th some time ago.
F-Crew are sitting in what is now a customary top 10 position and don't be deceived by Subh in 7th - they've got a decent average, that's worthy of top 5, so one can bank on them being moderately pleased and confident that they can get ahead. ROCK, VGN and xVx make up the top 10 and they'd probably say they were off to a solid start. TGV are just outside, but I think they'll push up soon enough.
There are some good alliances out the top 10, though. [BIG] who had an impressive round last time round are 19th and LCH who although aren't playing seriously this round will probably be of an ability that belies their ranking.
Ascendancy, last round's winners are typically lying low in 17th, although their average begs the question whether they can mount a charge on the scale of last round's massive success. 1up are slowly but surely adding members to the tag and are up to 23rd now but i'm sure they'll be getting up there and be challenging for the win.
As of yet, it's who can accumulate the most roids and hold them and at the moment, Omen are winning. You might be annoyed that you weren't in this logbook, or maybe you might want even more attention. Maybe I was inaccurate. If so rant at me in private message. I want to hear from anyone in fact, especially if you are new or you think I know little to nothing about you. What are your aspirations for this round? How do you see it panning out. If you want an IRC/pm interview, get onto me right now!.

Universe as at PT716, thanks to Remy for his stats.
Many events have unfolded since the last log update. NewDawn and Insomnia struck heavily at Omen, pegging them back for a while, and ND took the number one alliance spot for over 10 days. However Omen have shown their worthiness as a new alliance on the field of play and have come back to take the lead again, albeit a narrow one. The heavy incoming that comes with the number one spot has told on NewDawn and their roid count has dropped behind the other three contenders in the top four but who would dare write anyone off with the scores this close? Insomnia are performing well and disproving the doubters who questioned their ability to close out a round. Angels close out the tight group at the top but don't be fooled by their fourth place, there's not even 5 million separating #1 and #4.
Howling Rain are having a fine return to the field of battle pushing hard on VGN and Subh just ahead of them. Outside the top ten credit must be given to SiN for a fantastic effort and a well-deserved #1 average roid count. The past few days have seen LCH, a famous competitor over the past few rounds, gain over 20 members, one suspects from another allliance, and push up into the top 20. TGV remain surprisingly low down the rankings considering their recent history and Ascendancy, winners of r16, languish in 23rd, do they have a plan or have they just forgotten the round started? Meanwhile everywhere rumours abound of 1up members out of tag and out of sight.
Who will seize the moment? Who has the strength to prevail? Who will take the gamble in order to succeed? As Sun Tzu reminds us we cannot enter into alliances until we are acquainted with the designs of our neighbors. 'Carpe diem' my friends.

One week on the universe is looking clearer. Omen have opened up a ten million point score gap at the top of the rankings and are sitting comfortably with 15k more roids than their nearest competitors. ND and Omen have both done well roid-wise in the last four days, both showing ~10k roid gains in that time. Has the war let up? Did they both need a break to keep up their growth and avoid getting caught by the alliances behind them? Insomnia are still going well in third but must be wondering what their best strategy is at this point in time. Meanwhile angels have dropped off the pace a little bit and are sitting back in fourth caught in various nefarious political and military machinations with the mighty Subhmarine.
1up have moved up into sixth, aided by the addition of a few planets. Rumours of planets outside the tag are starting to look curious as Omen increase their lead. Are 1up aiming for the win? Can zhil get a top 100 planet without having to retal himself into it? Well probably not on the last one. The rest of the top 10 remain the same as last time with the positions changed slightly, F-crew have fallen back to tenth and xVx have performed well this week moving up to eighth but the gap from #7-#10 is only five million at this point and plenty of time remains.
Meanwhile TGV have announced a small-scale clearout and a return to the "core" route of playing that many alliances have found to serve them well over the past few rounds. SiN still have a very nice average roid count and score holding themselves well above the alliances behind them. Meanwhile outside the top 25 we've seen the appearance of the njuub alliance, which shows what happens when bunneh tries to spell *****.
Who will win the roid race? Can the #1 planet end up with more roids than last round's winning alliance? Is "have you stopped beating your wife yet" an improperly formatted question? Why didn't 16:9 leave their sodding galname for 6:9 to do? Can jerome make it from first to last in the space of a round? Why is that bloody alliance ranking so hard to format in order to paste on the forums? Watch this space next time week to find out the answers to none of these questions!

And out of the very shadows of hell emerged 1up to strike out for the #1 spot. Tuesday night (apparently they misread carpe diem as carpe noctem) the rumours were proven true and they gained over 30 million score shifting their actual members into the tag. Tuesday night and Wednesday morning saw mass incoming off 1up, and other alliances perhaps smelling easy roids, on Omen and they had lost 15k roids by the end of the day. 1up have increased the small score gap they had over Omen when they tagged by ~10 million score and unless the alliances who previously were locked in a bitter and protracted war can swallow their pride and work together to take down 1up one would have to say their victory looks almost certain.
The previous top five alliances have obviously all been moved down a place by 1up's storming into the lead. Insomnia have pulled away slightly from Angels and, presumably, much to the delight of their hard-working HC look set to finish out this round with a very solid ranking. ND and Omen are still kicking several shades of shit out of each other from time to time and ND, aided by 1up's attacks on Omen have closed the gap there down slightly. Further back Subh continue to push hard for a top five spot, with an added focus on angels, with xVx right on their coat-tails. VGN have slipped off their halcyon peak at the start of the round and need to redouble their efforts to give themselves the ranking their earlier performance so merited.
Outside the top ten ROCK, having ended their war with F-Crew, are eyeing up a top ten spot with a resurgent ToF sitting just ahead of them in eleventh. Don't worry about SiN's scoreloss either, most of that was just Tearz hiding his resources so he could launch a country-mile outside his bash limit. Personally I'm very impressed with Orbit, an alliance of which I know little, who have a very solid average score, better than a few alliances further ahead of them in the rankings. Meanwhile ascendancy lost big as jester forgot to log in and had his entire fleet stolen. His sterling efforts don't go unrewarded though as he wins my inaugural Shiva of the week award (he became death, destroyer of his own world).
Can 1up be stopped? Who can finish the round strongly and seal the tenth spot? If elviz spends his resources a tick late at the end of the round can omen win it all? Why do I feel compelled to finish these logbook entries with questions? Can we ban friday night attacks so I can go out drinking? Will robban break the forums with his geometrically increasing collection of red dots? Sooner or later, time vill tell.

As 1up steam away into the distance on the back of a 100% roid lead over any other alliance a fourth win in seven rounds looks almost certain. You have to give credit to the individual top planets in 1up this round who kept themselves up there through intelligent gameplay while the 1up military machine was switched off. Not that that has gone rusty as they've proved since tagging up, aided and abetted by insomnia in chief, amongst others. Omen can look back on a round hard fought and be proud of the effort they put in and the staying power they showed in the last few weeks. The political field aligned itself to make it extraordinarily difficult for them to win but as Shakespeare had Caesar say "The fault, dear Brutus, lies not in our stars, but in ourselves".
As Omen look to have secured second spot, the battles at the top look to be between ND and Insomnia for third, will they hit each other for the last couple of nights for it or will a more in-keeping roid racing style prevail? and between subh and angels for fifth, the winner here could be decided on any late round additions to the tag by the alliance outside the top five as the gap is so small. Further down xVx, on the back of a solid week's roid gains, are poised to swoop if either subh or angels slip up. F-crew, ROCK and VGN fill out the top ten but while the first two look assured of top ten spots VGN can't help but look over their shoulders at a resurgent TGV and a very consistent Tides of Fire.
Meanwhile as we all suspected zhil looks set to finish rank "god knows where but it's dangerously close to kj". The race for top galaxy looks fairly close but I'm unsure if anyone from either gal can launch on the other what with all those planet-naps in the way. Congratulations must go out to that high ranking omen zik planet whose name I couldn't be bothered checking up for keeping himself up there in the face of what I can only imagine must be horrendous levels of incoming. On that universal note of congratulations I'd like to get my "you were shit" nominations out of the way. JBG, jerome and jester. That is all.
Good round and good luck for the last few days everybody. Especially satyr who bugged me twice to write this last entry and without whom all things would wax into nothingness through the endless decay of time, captured by entropy and drawn down into the realm of the pitiful absence but instead rose eternally towards the dying light and soared once more into those ethereal places of which we occasionally dream but dare not speak as our words destroy what they cannot express. We marvel.

Tbh id like to see more posts in it as a basic thing. Maybe weekly updates as opposed to the current time lapse between postings.

I did do weekly updates once I took it over from lokken. Weekly updates were his intention as well but unfortunately he caught aids or got arrested or had exams or all of the above. I was tempted to do a crash update of it the day 1up tagged, opinions on that sort of thing?

Yeah, would be fun with some updates when big scorechanges happen, for example speculation on what might have happend etc.

Re: The Logbook - Back for Round 17
Overall i liked the way it was written, for an (atm) outsider like me it atleast gave me some impression of what was happening. It could do with a bit more info on who is/was fighting who the past week (or between the log times) and the result of that.

Barrow <3
i'll get down to it at somepoint yo.
What we really need for the logbook is a 'team' of writers to actually update the thing, as I found that studies/work got in the way of writing a logbook entry, which takes far long than it appears (as JBG will testify), as formatting the rankings takes time, as does ensuring neutrality in the logbook posting itself. Posting a logbook is actually quite hard work.
The problem is
- finding people with the time.
- finding people who can be objective to write it up.
- managing a thread as at the moment only those with mod powers can really do a logbook.

Re: The Logbook - Back for Round 17
I wouldn't mind writing a logbook entry at some point. A few different viewpoints would certainly make it more interesting.

Re: The Logbook - Back for Round 17
Like Achilles, I wouldn't mind chipping in, although I feel there are certainly better writers out there who can make the logbook interesting to read yet informative and perhaps most importantly not full of propoganda. This is what JBG and Lokken have achieved and they should try and find writers with the wit, intelligence and writing style to carry the torch so to speak.
