screwed up glibc

yeah im back again...
unfortunately my server is probably beyond the point of no return :-\

to get pgsql to work i had to upgrade to glibc-2.3.2, but did not upgrade glibc-common or any related packages...now i cant compile anything...

i deleted the glibc-common package and try to reinstall it but all i get is:

so then, when i try to compile from source, i get:

so i figure ill just update gcc too, while im at it:

Don't remove important bits in the first place? Use rpm -F or even apt. Certainly never compile random parts of the system.

I have no idea how you're having so much trouble. You still haven't mentioned what distro you're using. Where did you get the idea that PostgreSQL needs a modern glibc?

it was either postgresql or apache2 (which i had to update when i ****ed up apache 1.3.27)

either way, when i try to use rpm -F or any rpm command for that matter, it just gives me a segmentation fault

This does not make sense. If you mess up your apache1 configuration you can fix that. You don't have to destroy everything.

Yes - you are screwed. Ask the admin to reinstall. Fixing it would take longer and be more effort.

queball - the pgsql rpm for RH7.3 didnt work so i instaled from source (we were running WHM at the time, and WHM sux..doesnt install things / update them properly)

figured that since i had screwed apache1 up id just upgrade to apache2

unfortunately i have to pay for a system restore
