What's the objectively best colour?
Derive the best colour using only appeals to reason. I'd say pink. Pink is the colour of human flesh, and human intelligence has shown its superiority over other lifeforms. It is a very simple but emotional colour. We don't don't about shades of pink like we might about shades of white or blue. Yet it is still used to communicate love, the greatest of emotions. If I'm chatting to a guy and I see he's wearing pink then I know it's gonna be someone I can relate to.

Blue. The Planetarion forums uses it (atleast with the skin I use), therefore it must simply be the best.

Re: What's the objectively best colour?
Blue is objectively the best colour because I'm currently wearing a blue shirt and blue jeans, and I'm objectively the best person in the universe.

Maybe black should be considered a colour, because it is commonly referred to by that categorization, and the difference is only a technical matter anyway. </Nodrog>

Re: What's the objectively best colour?
http://www.space.com/scienceastronom...or_020110.html
WASHINGTON D.C. - Researchers at Johns Hopkins University today announced the color of the universe. Unfortunately, it doesn't go with anything .
The universe, once a stunning, radiant blue color, has in its middle years settled into rather dreary green hue not unlike that used on household appliances during the 1970s.
"The color is quite close to the standard shade of pale turquoise, although it's a few percent greener," says Karl Glazebrook, who is largely responsible for all this.
OR:
http://www.newscientist.com/news/news.jsp?id=ns99991775
Astronomers have revealed the true colour of the Universe - it is somewhere between "pale turquoise and medium aquamarine".
--
Seems like the most universal colour is greeny/turquoise - looks like cyan to me

Re: What's the objectively best colour?
I don't believe you can consistently defend blue. I argued that the fact that we discuss shades of blue indicates a metaphysical crisis. The tension between light blue versus dark is the least of the problems. You might be the greatest person in the world, but won't you be even greater tomorrow? And you will not, hopefully, be wearing the same clothes. And the PA forums are indeed the greatest forum since the Academy, but are they not just a stepping-stone to something higher? The truely best colour will escape its social context.
A stronger argument is naturalistic. I do like to sit outside and enjoy the blueness of the sky and the oceans - the blues, so to speak. But blue is the cradle of life, not life itself. The skies and oceans - the Earth - is merely a temporary haven for humanity. You can see the inconsistency by noticing that some have chosen the Earth's essential colour to be green ( random example), or even considered the blackness of space to represent existence. Green comes after blue, and blue comes after black. But pink is ultimate.

Nope. I have reached the ultimate in greatness. To become more great than I am would cataclysmically disrupt the balance of space and time and cause the very fabric of the universe to collapse (and other bad stuff like that).

Re: What's the objectively best colour?
The question of objectivity regarding colour would be one for science, and the a priori speculations of people based on their arbitrary whims doesn't serve to shine much light onto the issue. Since objectivity is only a sensible notion relative to a given standard, we would first need to agree upon what makes one colour objectively superior to another. Since our experience of colour as a sensation is solely from the human perspective, the most logical criteria would be "that which promotes the most positive effect in human subjects, in terms of emotions induced". This could then be tested by subjecting people from multiple cultures to different colour experiences, and determining the reactions produced by a combination of physically measuring their brainstates, and asking for their introspective judgement.

You could do that, but you'd just find out that the answer's "blue".

Red
Black
White
Grey / off white
Blue.
First as it is the colour of passion.
Second two because i like extremes, and they are neutral in a way as well. And Guiness is black also, and its nearly my only source of iron.
Fourth because grey is neutral.
Blue cos i like my jeans.
