Oi, Aryn
We have two Canadians from your fair city bustling round our office installing cisco switches.
We took them out last night to some of the old pubs in Nottingham and they were going on about that wierd stampede thing you lot have. They also probably think all British pubs are either in caves or churches now. Oh well.
Also, our email server broke so I got to drive one of the pool cars to go and get some new bits for it. 2.2Litre TurboDiesel Ford Focus... fun!

All 3 as it happens.
Also that one that isn't as old but brews it's on real ale on the premises. Can't remember the name now but it's near the waterfront, next to viafossa.
Had to take them to the trip, just so they could drunkenly try to hook the bull ring, much to the amusement of the other punters.

Re: Oi, Aryn
Cookie Club isn't that bad. It's moved to opposite West Side Bar anyway now. Spiders is where Cookie Club used to be.
It's cheap and plays half decent music. Can't really complain.

That wouldn't be difficult.
Derby is shit to go out in, well if you're under 30 it is.
I'm back in Sheffield next Wednesday for good although up tomorrow for one night.

Re: Oi, Aryn
It's true that there is something of a Nottingham-Derby rivalry.
Mostly, the nearest anyone from Derby gets to telling a bunch of Nottingham people where they're from is "Der-" before someone beats them up
On a more serious note for RR:
If you want to do the "oldest pubs" circuit then you want The Sally, The Bell and The Trip.
The other one is the Nottingham branch of Pitcher and Piano. While this isn't an old bar in itself, it is built in an old church which remains very much in tact, including stained glass windows, pillars, and full access to and seating on the first floor gallery. Be warned though, the toilets are on the second floor up a spiral staircase that seems to go on forever...
Any decent online pub guide will give you directions to the first 3, and the P&P has directions on the website.

Re: Oi, Aryn
I've eaten in "the oldest pub in Nottingham" a few times, it's very nice, but it's a restaurant rather than a traditional pub.

nah, it's both. I've only eaten there once but I've been there for drinks loads.
If you're in Nottingham go to the Pit and Pendulum. I have to say it's my personal favourite.
For eating during the day Yates is pretty good... (but packed and scary at night)
Tap and Tumbler is a good alternative pub.
Courts is pretty interesting - in an old courtroom i think... haven't been there for years though.

I'm sure they claim it to be...
Edit: According to this it's the oldest restaurant. Which makes sense as I said you can't drink in their. My bad.

Re: Oi, Aryn
Pit and Pendulum... hmmmmm. The nearest thing I can get to the description of that is a trendy goth bar. Also they hide the mens toilets behind a secret-door type bookcase thingy - NOT FUNNY!
And yes, Yates is a good place to go if you want a fight.

Re: Oi, Aryn
Hmm
The oldest pub in England is The Jerusalem isnt it? As in the one under the castle.
If Ste and Stew are going out in Nottingham for a drink i will be most upset if i am not invited .
Edit: My bad, seems 'ye olde trip (to Jerusalem)' is the same place i call the Jerusalem.

Re: Oi, Aryn
so, just make it the start of easter and get him to stay there a little bit longer than he planned, this is 'teh win' as one would assume that then he would have a whole student type house to himself!

Re: Oi, Aryn
It's a nice effort, but if the Christmas holidays are anything to go by, Nottingham Uni breaks up a long time before Sheffield, which is one week before Easter.

Re: Oi, Aryn
ah well :/ there goes that idea, why don't you ask JC and see though, he might hang around anyway just to vouch for you and ste's existence as seperate entities
EDIT: or come back early afterwards, one would surmise that if you break up late you go back late, and if nottingham breaks up early and goes back early, you should have some overlap

Re: Oi, Aryn
Notts Uni Easter holiday is from the 18th March till the 18th April.
I was planning on being in Blackburn for most of the Easter but it seems i've got a seminar or 2 on the 21st/22nd of March so i'll definitely be around for that weekend. I can always come down to meet people anyway as long as i've got more than a weeks notice to arange time off work. I have a house down here (Beeston), its not particularly massive but i can sleep a few people on the floor if needs be.
