WTF? I'm not normally one to slate the creators, but if this does hold an ounce of truth it's a rubbish idea. We should just continue from where we left off (or at least give me advance notice so I can launch my attacks ).

Well everything just died for me again....
So i wonder when it comes back on if we're allready close to tick 1.000 ;-)

BTW: can't we just rollback and NOT start before everything actually works like it should... (or is this a totally insane idea...)

Sensible thing would be to roll back to 3 or 4am and/or halt the ticker till 7pmish. That way people can catch up with what the hell is going on.

Well it makes sense, if the ticker starts without at least a couple of hours delay many people with incoming now will miss several ticks because they can't constantly check to see if PA has come back to life, not forgetting the issue of those who would have been organising defence at 5am but can't access IRC now.

Rollback can cause just as many problems as it solves. I remember losing my fleet a round or two back because someone thought it would be "fun" to roll back to a point before I recalled it.

Hence the tick pause to allow everyone time to get up to speed on when things will be rolling again.

A rollback is imo the best option. But it is only a good option offcourse if every1 is given enough time. So they have to announce in advance when the game will be back up again and when ticks will start (and normal!) again. And offcourse the announcement should be at least some hours before ticks actually start again.

Server Downtime, backup and more
Posted by: Spinner
Posted on: Tuesday 1st April 2003 at 12:43

To ensure everybody is set right back to where they were before the servers went down, we are installing a backup from just before it happened.

We will also hand out a compensation in resources to everyone, so expect a little extra to throw around.

The backup takes a while to get in, but its getting there. We will be back with more as its available, but we will hold the game in pause for a while so everyone has at least an hour or two to perform any checks and any needed recalls etc.

We apologize for any inconvenience.
Bonus resources? Goodies \o/

Recall and launch again tomorrow. Anything else is silly.

At least an hour or two - idiot!!!

That's exactly what they did to me last time. I came home from work to find an annihilated fleet.

And as for "bonus" resources - how fair is that likely to be? I know - let's make the game totally independent of all elements of skill.

Absolutely unbelieveable !!!

1 million of each resource - up to 5 days income for many (smaller) planets.

It really makes you feel good about spending all that time online in the early stages of the round, optimising scan/roid ratios and carefully selecting the right constructions/researches.

What the hell do these guys think this is - havoc??!!

You think that has anything to do with your current rankings? All it mattered in the beginning of the round was that you were in WEETNARFZ.
