(Spolier) Why didn't they just turn off the Matrix?
Seeing as the other thread (as per usual!) has descended into a flame fest...
*** Spoilers Below ***
Okay, so Smith is a threat to the Matrix. He's taken it all over.
Why didn't the machines just trip the "off" switch then?
Sure, they'd probably put all of their "power cells" (humans) into shock, but they'd have a clean, fresh matrix to play with.
In fact, surely Smith taking over all the people in the Matrix would put the people plugged into it, into shock, and die.
Hrm.
Sucakge.
So why didn't the machines simply turn it off?
M.

Re: (Spolier) Matrix Revolutions, Question About
that might not have worked actually.
Smith took over Agents in Reloaded, so pulling the plug on humans may not have worked, for some reason or other, which is not explained.
I'm willing to bet the machines tried to remove Smith by fighting him and his clones with mass agents in the matrix.
Clearly the machines got pwned.

(Spoiler) Another matrix quesion
I can't quite work out the significance of "the girl" (can't remember her name).
You know, the one who's the daughter of the two programs who're waiting for the trainman.
The way the Oracle is looking after her obviously gives her some sort of significance, and she's also there at the end with the Oracle, Serif and the sunrise/sunset - when the Oracle asks "did you do that?" and she replys "yes, for Neo" or something along those lines.
Soooooooooo...
What actually IS she?
Did I somehow miss the explanation or what?
My current theory is that she's the new custodian of the Matrix.

Re: (Spoiler) Another matrix quesion
she was going to be deleted cos she didn't have purpose (her original design was no longer needed) at the end she had purpose (she controlled the sun or something)... she was just to show that programs have love... aaaaaaaaaawww hot cute

Re: (Spolier) Matrix Revolutions, Question About
1. No humans = no power. No power = No machines.
2. Smith, like Neo, had already evolved beyond the Matrix itself.

"Mother of the matrix" (spoilers)
I don't get this now. In the second one it was sorta made clear by the architech that the Oracle wasn't the mother of the matrix (he scoffs at the idea). Then we hear Smith call her 'mother' and see the Oracle and the Architech together at the end.
Huh?

Re: "Mother of the matrix" (spoilers)
She is responsible for the equation that makes the matrix possible so surely she would be the mother?
without her it cant exist
etc
etc

Sort of a mommy, eh? I'm not usually good at spotting stuff like that anyway, so i'm just going to stop theorising...

Re: (Spoiler) Another matrix quesion
she had no purpose to exist.
she could maniuplate the sunrise etc but lets face it that isnt needed within the matrix. its just a pretty thing.
so she was going to be deleted but was smuggled in.
tbh i thought the film was a massive let down. i dont understand why alot of people have had trouble grasping certain aspects of it.
everything and nothing is concluded.

Re: (Spolier) Matrix Revolutions, Question About
by the looks of things and the oracle being in the pit at the end, the smith program still had the original program/person inside it and smith had all their thoughts/powers/knowledge. you didnt see him fly until he took over the oracle.

Re: "Mother of the matrix" (spoilers)
The Architect is a machine, and hence sees things differently. To him the idea of the 'Oracle' being the mother of the Matrix is silly (hence he scoffs at it), she's probably something like the Operating System.
To humans, she may very well be the motherfigure.

Re: Matrix Spoilery Stuff
Yet nobody has answered the "why didn't they pull the plug" question...
The machines *could* live without humans as energy. The Architect says so in Reloaded (do try and keep up)
Oh and the multiple title changes for this thread reeks of bad modding.

Re: Matrix Spoilery Stuff
Turning off the matrix wouldnt have killed Smith. Once he had combined with the Oracle he had the same powers as Neo, so presumably could work outside the Matrix. The only way to stop him was from inside the Matrix using Neo. The machines knew this and so turning off the Matrix would have stopped their only chance of getting rid of Smith.

Re: Matrix Spoilery Stuff
How can you "spoil" Matrix: R&R?
I thought all of that was taken care of in pre-production.

Re: Matrix Spoilery Stuff
This can not be the end...
eg. "How long will this peace last" - "As long as it has to"
and "Will we ever see Neo again" - "Yes, I guess so" (or something like this)
Mankind isn't free at all, the machines are still there and they don't act like human (the Architect even says this), so in fact the machines don't need this peace and they don't need Zion at all...

As I pointed out in the thread back when reloaded was new, the architect lies.

As I recall W's analysis of the Architect's deviousness was nigh on legendary.
