Jagex' conditions for a PA link on their Website
Quote:
The second, more minor, change relates to the information that is given when signing up. To decrease the required information, we have merged the username and e-mail fields, and the ruler name and nickname fields. Streamlining the signup process has been a focus of Jagex to move us closer to a point at which they can link to us on their website.
|
When is this going to happen? Maybe half way r49? I mean the new round is starting next week and they don't manage to link PA on their website? Now is the perfect time to link PA, not a few days or weeks later - NOW!
Why did they buy PA I still ask myself if you don't do anything for it in 2 rounds now.

Re: Jagex' conditions for a PA link on their Website
It takes time to first formulate a complete plan and then put it into action etc. So to me, this isn't too bad. What is unacceptable is the lack of communication to paying customers.

Re: Jagex' conditions for a PA link on their Website
Also, how is merging alliance nick and rulername a step forward and a requirement for putting up a link? Are the avg. Jagex customers too stupid to fill in 1-2 more fields? Those customers fit Jagex stupidity perfectly then....

Re: Jagex' conditions for a PA link on their Website
Actually yes, the harder a sign up process is, the less likely it is that people will go through with it. Removing a couple of fields won't have a huge effect, but it does have one. Read up on 'conversion rate'.

Re: Jagex' conditions for a PA link on their Website
So basically by making this change the PA administration is effectively admitting that collecting the amount of personal information that it has required for the past decade was entirely unnecessary and a massive violation of consumer privacy. I wonder, how effective will multihunters be in carrying out their job now that they won't have all our juicy personal details to link our game personas to our facebook accounts?

Weren't they planning on linking pa accounts to facebook in the past? I think it was tried a few years ago

Remy that would be a step towards effective advertising which i doubt they'd do.

They're linking us to JageX's login and signup system. Which means PA has to change its signup fields and system to allow that to happen.

We dont have any info, we dont have a universal login or proper passport system at the moment, thats whats slowly getting implemented.
Save your complaining for when we actually get linked and get put on there site.. when you realise that every single username you could possibly want, has already been taken by the millions of runescape players past or present

So installing a propper passport system takes 2 rounds? come on... if they wanted to do this they could do it MUCH faster

Re: Jagex' conditions for a PA link on their Website
We are talking about 2 volunteers here. While that should not impact the quality, it certainly impacts development speed.

but 2 rounds when nothing else but stats are being changed from round to round? That's a big speed issue then

I have every right to complain now laready. They change stuff in a stupid way, cos they wanna streamline? Fine, maybe they should learn to communicate? If they had told us beforhand, complaining can be prevented. Explaining things beforehand prevents lack of understanding.
At the moment, we heard some vague promises 2 rounds ago, and then complete silence. Then suddenly in signup, we see changes. That could have been done in a much better way!

I could care less about their communication skills if/when they had shown to be committed to improving the game. While i am all for streamlining the signup procedure, replacing the rulername with an IRC-nick/passport nick takes away one more part of the alliance gameplay (intel gathering) and cripples another part (defence coordination). This has nothing to do with improving the game or promoting it (straight away).
What astounds me even more is the fact noone cared to consult the community about these upcoming changes. PATeam should know by now this game is highly community driven (if they like it or not). I mean let's face it, most of us play because of the community rather than the quality of the game (whilst addictive, it's hardly refreshing anymore).
Effectively there has been no serious development in the game since the introduction of ETD (20!!!! rounds ago). The number of players has been dwindling since(last recorded growth was the free R22 iirc), and we haven't attracted more than 50 'new' players in that time. Most of us are here for over those 20 rounds, be it on and off.

Re: Jagex' conditions for a PA link on their Website
Adding a race hardly counts as "serious development".

Would it not have to exist first for them to be able to fix it (totally agree it should have been added ) ,but if jagex were anyway serious about pa they would have appointed as a community manager who actually reads and reply's on the forums

Re: Jagex' conditions for a PA link on their Website
Regarding communication between the "Owners" of PA and the "Customers"...
When have they ever been linked, not since the spinner era.
To be honest I would not be bothered with the current player base as,
1) They only are about 500 who are dedicated (if that many).
2) Jagex are looking for players in the region of 10's of thousands. So point #1 is irrelevant to them.
3) Using the PA Team as intermediaries removes jagex from the aspect of community criticism.

Re: Jagex' conditions for a PA link on their Website
I'm still not entirely sure why they bought PA.. I thought i was too do with their scifi "mechscape" aka StellerDawn game that was going to be released, but that has now been invesed in with Hasbro and rebranded as the online Transformers game.
Maybe Jagex are willing to keep PA alive (old players? although surely they'd have posted on the forums). I'm sceptical about that.. Anyway I was playing a round wth a rage maker and thought this was relevant; http://i.imgur.com/MMwQ8.png
