ADSL Modem-Connection Problem [NTL]
Good Afternoon,

Here is my situation...

Current Setup:
NTL Freedom Connection
SpeedTouch 330 Model
Laptop

Desired Setup:
NTL Freedom Connection
Netgear ADSL Modem DM602
Wireless Router
Laptop

Problem:

(I have limited it to being "Phone Line -> Netgear Modem - > Laptop" at the moment).

I cannot for the life of me get it to connect, trying a variety of setups. I have just emailed NTL but I thought it would be worth a try seeing if anyone here might me able to help.

Modem Parameters:
  • Connections Login - Yes/No
  • Encapsulation - PPP over ethernet / PPP over ATM
  • Password
  • Service Name
  • Timeout
  • DNS Address - Auto from ISP / Manual
  • Muliplexing Method: VC-BASED / LCC-BASED
  • Virtual Circuit - When selecting UK for this it sets: VPI 0 and VCI 38

NTL is cable and you have a DSL modem. Just a quick observation.

Anyway, daft assumptions aside, can you not retrieve the parameters being used by the speedtouch modem somehow? They're usually available through some kind of web interface. It's quite likely NTL don't document it and will be unwilling to tell you how to get to it, but google should help you out.

How about sorry for assuming MrPeach was stupid enough to blow £50 on a modem for the wrong connection interface?

Note the speedtouch modem.
A-la-'frog' modem
They have an adsl connection currently so they got the right kind of modem.
As for the problem at hand.
plug the cable into the modem, and alter its settings so username etc are stored in it.
Also note the IP address of the modem, its going to act as a NAT gateway.
Alter the tcp/ip settings for your network card which connects to the modem so that the gateway ip is the same as the modems ip and it should 'just work'
