Covert Research Ops

Might get flamed for this, but here goes!!

With Co-ops being included in R11 (too some extent), why not have a co-op in which you can "copy" another races research, and use it to manufacture a certain number of that races ships. The selection of ships would be limited, say 1 of each class, and you would only be able to do this to one race, eg a Zik-Xan hybrid fleet. To compensate for the advantage, the newly aquired ships would be more increased in in price, say by 20%. Attacking with an inivisble Xan and a Cath fleet could be interesting........

This would be similar to stealing ships in stead of blowing them up.

makes balancing ships very very tricky, plus i think will be ruled out by other features you don't know about yet. interesting idea tho, worth some thought

No it wouldnt it would mean you could actually produce another races ships...

If you have the capability to produce the ships from another race, you become a hybrid of the two races.
This would surely unbalance the game.
At least when we had the old steal ships there was the inbuilt handicap of firing last .
To have four races all being able to hybridise themselves with each other would make for some pretty interesting fleet combo's to defend against.
I wonder how the influx of new players will cope with such an idea, when, they seem to struggle with the basics of the game .

we really need more different kind of ships to play with, the current options are just sad strategy vice(spelling?)

stealing and trading technology is deifntly something i think should be looked at at some point.
