Fenced gals
Hi!
So, it seems like everyone is going out of their way to fence the sh!t out of their gals this round. Seems people are shying away from the idea of fort gals, though god only knows why.
So, on the assumption that the above is accurate and most big alliances are going out of their way to fence gals, rather than consolidate members into fewer galaxies, I can't be the only one who sees where this is going?
The idea of a 'fence gal' is that you spread out the number of alliances present in a gal in order to reduce incoming. It doesn't work. From a galaxy perspective, it absolutely doesn't help. Alliance-wise, it works out a little better as it's harder to target your members, but galaxies under the impression that just because you have members from 5 of the top 6 or 7 alliances that you'll not get any incoming, are somewhat naive.
If everyone's fenced, it means that alliances wont be able to exclusively target gals that don't contain members. There are too few gals for this to be viable, so not only are your own alliances going to be in a position whereby they'll have to attack member gals, but when they do your gal def pool gets dramatically reduced. And, of course, you can't defend against incs, which creates animosity.
Plus, with a majority of gals being fenced gals, then it means anyone who has forts is dramatically less likely to be hit for fear of political ramifications. Gals will be hit based purely on how fat they are, and no amount of fencing is going to save you in that regard. Also, the alliance that does fort gets significantly more non-member targets, which will drive team play and consequentially the associated def culture.
I suppose that one advantage of non-fort gals is that alliances wont expect gals to dc their own incs for the most part. Which means that people wont need to be as active if the reliance on alliance dc's is greater. Which, in turn, means that when gals do get incs the chances of being able to properly coordinate def is reduced.
Sure, the top gals will make it work. But then, the top gals could make either fort or fence work. For everyone else, fencing is a stupid idea*.
*Yes, I'm fencing. Just following orders!

Re: Fenced gals
One thing I would encourage for alliance BCs ... If you are going to hit a gal with a member(or members) in it is to make your attacks in cells or assign TP ... I.E. the rank and file members especially the one ingal can't see the attack on their gal and to stop tip offs to ground fleet(s) hence increase % of landing.

Re: Fenced gals
Fortress galaxies are an equally stupid idea for the non-dedicated. Fact of the matter is, if you're not very active, you're going to get roided when your gal is hit. There is no strategy that allows you to be both inactive and unroidable.

My galaxy last round was rank 68th after the original bp exiled out. We finished 5th or 6th?
It is worth noting:
* every galaxy member attacked who they wanted, no restrictions were out in place.
* no alliance was stopped from hitting us.
* we were pretty well fenced.
Work that one out.

You mean a galaxy that wasn't so crap it's bp exiled originally, who used the mechanics of the game to recruit the best players it could and then went from 60ish to 1st and won by a mile. Trust me its not where you start it's where you finish, something CT should ponder

Yes because the 3 ultores in that gal, of which 2 were late sign ups made it a ult gal!!!

I think most the score that gal was from ct and nd players, which would mean your bedroom posters would more appropriate

Re: Fenced gals
OP got a valid point, fencing wont reduce incs, that much, depending on the planets in the mix it might be a good idea.
I wonder how well a fence would do with 5-6 top ally DC's.
oh wait, I already know.
Anyway for the rest fencing or forting - it still boils down to being online sorting def/fakes/PL - from 03:00 gmt and onwards´, once the shit hits.

I actually haven't played for many rounds,I just read these forums from time to time. I've just noticed from your posting that your adorance for Ultores could be compared to teenage girls and Justin Bieber.
Too bad you didn't play early rounds when alliances like Fury were dominating this game with over 100k player base. Then again, it's probably for the best as I don't think your hormones could've handled it.
P.S. It would look better if you added <3 after every "Ultores".I'm sure they would appreciate you as a better fan.

Re: Fenced gals
A) so having admiration for the way an alliance I was in conducts itself is wrong?
B) 4=many (thats how many rounds ago you had a planet in pa, that's under a year...)
C) furys domination is all relative to nowadays, more players, bigger defpools. They didn't win 5 in a row, you can only beat what's put in front of you

You came off as a fanboy before joinig them.
And seriously, you try to compare PA to when there was for ex. no XP to gain score from?Loosing roids had a much higher impact back then. And you think that Fury had 10k players?

Re: Fenced gals
on the other hand 160k planets doesn't mean 160k players. I think we all can agree that the transition from 4th to 5th round showed that the accurate number of players were far less than 160k

lol.. I love the trolling on here.
Although Kenny does have a very valid point regarding fenced galaxies, can you really blame folk for using this strategy? Considering the stats are so offensive - forts would get slaughted (especially Ultores).

Re: Fenced gals
OK so there is a difference between a fenced gal and a gal with lots of members from other alliances. A) its well known that some alliances refuse to target gals with members in this = a good fence alliance and comprising a core of say 3 ults 1 ND and 1 HR ( i think hr avoid member gals?) then filling out with some other alliances that avoid member gals. This would create an attractive fence and reduce incomings.
Sticking HvN, CT, App, and ULT in a gal and calling it a fence is stupid all it is free roids for the non blocked planets and will get pwned no gal win and no advantage. Also added tot this point planet rank whores in fence gals will sell their fleets to whichever alliance in gal will reduce their incs the most as a result of giving def. At least in a fort you should be able to count on your def.
Similarly there is a difference between a fort gal and a alliance gal. A fort gal has a plan for def ships (running a bigger more effective class in gal ie BS for DE incs) plan for running the gal ( exile times and ticks) and importantly DCs (people to sms). In contrast putting a 5 man BP together then exiling 3 other members of your alliance in and claiming to be a fort is wrong and the gal will suck. Using alliance eta def ships for example doesn't really give you an advantage over being random. Also most alliances who don't fort properly actually lose out on early intel etc because their members forget to get gal intel before leaving their gals.
IMHO a properly arranged fort and accompanying alliances strat is a far superior way to reduce successful incs. The fact that HCs have advocated trying to make a fence gals this round to reduce incs is to me just a way for them to tell their members that they think they are bad at pa without trying to offend anyone.

Re: Fenced gals
a proper fenced gal is not about avoiding incs but maximizing the defence pool for the gal and to utilize the low eta in gal , having been in both fenced and fort gals I would personally prefer to play in a fort gal but if both had competant players there is very little difference between the two

Re: Fenced gals
it works....
but you need to be active as hell, and ofc the ppl you fence with need to be High ranked members of there allaince ;-)
and allways play by the rule´s
allways play for Galaxy first
send as much def as you can to ur alliance
but allways keep alest 1-2 roiding fleet out ;-)
ofc if Syn_sid is running ur allaince you make sure ur galaxy dont hit ur allaince

Re: Fenced gals
Fenced gals may not avoid inc in the long run, however they tend to avoid it in the first couple weeks where everyone is looking for easy roids. After that it really doesn't matter imo as by then if you did it right you should have a decent lead.

activity is overrated and does putting galaxy first mean ur informing your gal when your ally is coming because that's hardly following rules

I disagree. For me, it's vice-versa. Fence galaxies avoid incoming in the long run due to block wars.

Re: Fenced gals
Everything is going to depend on your experiences playing the round. Some people will have had an inc free fence, some will have had fences smashed to peices. Politics plays the biggest role in what is the best way to do it. Mainly it all comes down to getting inca covered, if you do that and land regularly and don't crash then you have a chance!!

Re: Fenced gals
actually you don't even have to land regularly. I was ingal with someone who launched 1 attack all round and finished 60th-ish just by holding value.

Are you saying they don't avoid it early on? The "may" does mean the avoidance can go on for longer
