Deleted posts just die I think, and don't go anywhere.. but they never tend to delete individual posts..

They die. Closed posts shuffle down the lists and drown, eventually. You can delete your own post, even, so that's what you do when you are being humiliated, flamed, and barbequed, to avoid any evidence of the embarasment.
