Re: What is your favourite brand of washing powder
I use Persil as well, but only cos thats what my mum uses, and I figured she knew what she was talking about...
Anyone use fabric softeners?
We arn't allowed at uni in the machines, but at home we have Comfort, I really can't tell the difference to be honest.

Re: What is your favourite brand of washing powder
When I was a kid I had a brilliant idea of making millions on the stock market. To prepare myself for my future career I selected a "stock portfolio" where I picked various companies and traced their value, writing down their daily listing (from teletext) in a notebook I had. One of the companies I picked was Unilever, who make Persil.
So Persil.

Re: What is your favourite brand of washing powder
so, assuming washing powder is laundry soap....
I generally use Tide or Cheer, but sometimes I use Sunlight. For dryer sheets, I use Bounce

Not as far as I know (I think they're competitors). There's probably some regional distribution deal thing :
http://www.unilever.co.uk/ourbrands/brand_persil.html (for the UK)
I know Henkel make Persil in Germany, etc tho. Kind of makes the whole notion of investment in branding/intellectual property even more absurd when two companies make exactly the same product in different countries.

No it is not. Persil was originally invented in Germany at the beginning of last century. It is an abbreviation for Perborat and Silikat. It was first sold by a guy called Fritz Henkel, founder of Henkel KGaA. However, during WW II the brand name was 'lost' and Henkel's rival Unilever began producing a detergent under the same name (not only in GB but also in France).
Them British and Dutch bastards
